If it could be anywhere, where would you go?

I think we are fast approaching putting life on hold for a while.

This year has been tough on us with COVID, work, the heat and 100+ hour weeks with just a few days off since the beginning of the year.
It’s time for us to take a well earned break.

If you could go anywhere, for a week or two, or multiple spots, with your Montana, where would it be?
Where would you recommend and what time of year?

As much as I love the US rockies, I would have to choose the Canadian rockies. Have been there on an auto trip but not RVing. In early August that time and got snowed on.
Alaska would certainly be high on the list (been there auto only also) but would take a lot more than a week or two.

I think key qualifiers to that question are 1) you limit your trip to a "week or two" and 2) you are in Ozona TX. Those 2 things really limit how far and how much you can see. If all you want to do is drive straight for 2 weeks you can see some stuff further N, E or W. If, after all those long hours and weeks, you would like to go somewhere pretty, cool vs 100+ those distances, and options, decrease dramatically and are much more limited.

You might think through those and post back what you are actually looking for; I figure resting up might be at the top of that mix, then your preferences for full hookup or not, popular places or remote etc. Much easier to get responses that fit your exact needs.

We will go anywhere. Plan on actually taking a few months off.
Other than the odd weekend to see family and 10 days we spent in Colorado for Christmas, the wife and I have never vacationed together in the last 7 years. Nothing but work.
This post is more picking everyone’s memories of places they have visited and where they’d return to. There are a lot of very well traveled members on here.
We are open to anything and everything, but some of the best places I’m sure, have been found whilst on the road between set destinations and cannot just be googled.

A few lakes, fishing, good local food, local attractions to see, even just quiet boondocking. It all sounds good to us right now!

I would do Yellowstone and Grand Teton early fall.

Then I would find other employment.

You sound like I was. I worked long hours 7 days a week for months on end. Oh the joys of having your own business.
The places I would go is where I could get away from everything. The Shirley Basin Wyoming is such a place. 440,000 acres of BLM land. Google Shirley Basin and you will find an abandoned trailer park. It’s easy to get to and you can set up for months without seeing a sign person.
The other place is Union Pass Wyoming. It’s 8300 feet elevation between Dubious and Pinedale. All the big game species in Wyoming are up there. There are lakes to fish and small streams full of trout. A few cars come be every day. You can forget about your cell phone, radio and TV unless you have satellite service. The days are cool nights cold and snow lays until July on shady places.

I agree with Montana Man - Yellowstone. If you have never been, you will never forget it.
As to Lynwood's Union pass, it is a nice place. But I drove up without the Monty and that is all I would want to do. The road from Dubois that year was pretty rough. I met some campers about 2/3 the way to Pinedale. A lady said the road on that side is even rougher!!! And I like going on backroads for a few miles, so Lynwood is more of a man than I am! LOL

I have never been to Yellowstone. Spent time in Glacier NP and would certainly go back.
When you’re used to west Texas summers, putting a long sleeve shirt on in for north western Montana mornings In September is quite a novelty.

Lynwood, that sounds like a trip I need to take. Get away from work and the outside world for a few weeks.

Thanks. The road to me isn’t rough. It’s a well maintained gravel road. The only problem that I have it’s fairly steep and your transmission will over heat but there is a easy cure for that, put your truck in low range.

We would go to Houston to spend time with son, daughter in law and new grandson - whom we have only done FaceTime calls for the past several months. If we did not do that trip - it would be to Yellowstone area.

For us, being retired, we really like the shoulder seasons when things slow down (in the past seemingly due to current conditions) but use them all.

We live in W TX so it is hot and dry in summer. We like the mountains; NM (just sold our mountain property in March), CO for close - Pagosa, Telluride, Silverton in the S. Utah has some great national parks that are very popular meaning LOTS of people. You can't beat Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons IMO. If you pick Yellowstone I would NOT miss the Grand Tetons. We like Pinetop and Show Low in AZ. Morning drives to Greer for fishing was always fun.

Since you're in TX, and if you didn't want to travel far, what about the TX hill country? Marble Falls, Fredericksburg, Kerrville and that vicinity are relaxing to me - Jun-Aug for us and then the trees give us allergies. Galveston is fun but not in winter. We do FL in winter.

Ozarks, Blue Ridge Mountains....the list is literally endless. I think you should determine your interests, timelines, desire to travel vs desire to kickback and all of that then put a lot of time into figuring out what it is that you actually want to do during that "free" time to make the most of it.

I guess I didn't describe it correctly. It wasn't so rough, per se, but there seemed to be a lot of washboard stuff. When pulling up hill and giving a little gas on washboard, the truck sure bounces around.

This we can agree on. Any gravel road up a hill will be washboard. Hook a fiver to it and all that weight will keep it from bouncing around. We followed a friend over to the Green River to fish. He had a F150 and we were in a 3500 Chevy. We couldn’t keep up we were bouncing so much.

Different places work for different people. The US Rockies are great but the Canadian Rockies have a lot to offer too. A couple of years ago we spent a month in Newfoundland. Two weeks is not much time to go some place and "smell the flowers" but, I do understand if you are still working. So maybe Yellowstone/Teton are good choices for you this time around.

Going over the Bear Tooth hwy with a big rig would not be fun---last year saw a trucker coming down--when he got to the bottom where we were parked he got out of his 16 wheeler and threw up----

If you have only a week or more and you are in Ozona, Tx, got to Chama, NM, ride the train, then go to Delores, Co. That is a good place to go driving to see some beautiful scenery.
