2018 Montana - Are my tanks emptying?

I recently traded my Cougar Fiver in on a new Montana 3721RL. When flushing my black and gray tanks on the Cougar it was obvious by the noise they were flushing. When I pulled my Black Tank handle for the first time on the new Montana I hear nothing? Gray Tank..same thing?

Here’s the strange part...

When I checked inside prior to flushing the black and the gray tank both registered 1/3 full. I did leave the black tank handle open when I went back inside and ran some water into the toilet. I went back outside and still nothing. The DW then yelled that the black and gray tanks were now reading zero fill. ?
I never did hear anything going through hose, and the hose didn’t have any residual liquid that I could tell left in it.

Only other thing I should mention is that this was the first camping weekend with the new rig and the temperatures dropped to a low of around 25 degrees overnight. Could this be part of the problem? Thoughts?

The cold wasn't that bad, but did you use the furnace at all over night? If not, maybe it got cold enough to freeze the drain line. If you only spent a couple nights in the rig, you didn't really have enough waste in the black tank to drain it. You should really have at least a 1/2 tank or more to get a good drain. I would wait until things warmed up more, run a lot more water into the black tank, and then try it again, along with running the black tank flush while draining it.

Go to your nearest RV Supply Store and buy yourself a clear extension to put between your RV's discharge and your sewer hose. That way you can monitor the flow, takes the guess work out of the job.

Get yourself a clear extension so you can see what's going on when you pull the drain handles you should also get a valtra end for it because if you still have the chip valves
they like to leak!

just a thought if its cold or frozen, if you have the shower set up in your water/valve compartment I forgot the term for that area, anyway . I hook the shower hose (remove the shower head) to the black tank clean out. that way you can run HOT water to your black tank to help clean it out. besides then I only have one hose going into the trailer instead of two. I agree the best thing is to get a clear adapter so you can see what's going on.

A clear extension or clear 90 will tell you a lot about what is going on!

I also use a 45 degree clear fitting so I can tell if it is getting all the TP out and the black water running fairly clear. I let it fill for about 4 to 5 minutes and empty about 3 times to get it cleaner.

I'll be switching to the Black Tank Treatment: 1/2 cup of Each; Calgon, Fabric Softener, Liquid Laundry Detergent - from what I've read is that this combination: Limits odor, keeps tank slick, helps keep tank clean, easy on camp ground systems, reasonable cost, could be used for other purposes if required.

Good suggestion. I do the same.
