Built in vaccum vrs portable vac?

Well, after some discussion about the Dyson stick, we decided we didn't have enough charged on our Lowes credit card so I went a bought a Dyson DC 35 rechargeable and am shocked at how much dirt it picked up right after vacuuming with the built in. I guess we are now traitors to the built in vac, but this thing is awesome and expensive, wow.

Our '14 3150RL was a stock unit, had the vac in it so. Where to store the hose? Wife did not like it in the closet, took too much room.

Under bed is full of her craft stuff. Put hose and bag of stuff in drawer under couch. Problem, got to move recliner to get drawer out from under couch.

She opted to bring Oreck upright vac from house and stick it in the closet??? The hose took up space but the Oreck does not??? I have a Hoover small canister for the vehicles. Underneath in "my" space.

Where can you get the powered end thing. Might make a difference.

Like others we also have Dyson aboard. Bernese Mt dog and Retreiver required more suction! Lol.

Our new/used came with a built in, but like several have said it's much easier to just use the heavy duty hand held we got for the stairs in our house. I've used the built in once just to see how well it worked. Got quite a bit more up with the hand held afterwards. Been thinking about removing it to gain extra storage, but haven't had the need yet.

We had the Built-in in our Monty, used it a few times, but a PITA dragging the hose around and storage of it. Didn't order one for our SOB, but Cashed in jars of quarters and bought a Dyson. Mounted charging station on wall of Washer/Dryer closet. Works for us with Litter and Hair everywhere from four Kitties.

We use ours exclusively. It's not as good as the old Dyson but takes up a lot less space. Maybe the 3400 is different we just roll the hose back up into the cupboard where the hose connects to the main unit. Storage isn't a problem.

While trying to put all the information togather:

The central vac does an ok job. It does a better job with the powered head. Storing and dragging around the hose is a pain. Are you also dragging a electrical cord with the power head?

The portables do a better job, requires more storage and cost more money.

The Dyson rechargable is the bomb.

The turbo head works off the vacuum of the hose so, no, you are only dragging the hose around. Our built in may still get used, but not as much if any. "The Dyson rechargeable is the bomb", you said a mouth full there.

The vac that came with our 3400 has more suction than our household vacuum. It was even better than many car wash vacs. Maybe they changed after 2007, but our vac is awesome.

Our central vac in our 3402 is great! It's mounted in the cabinet corner under the counter. In our last monty I used the hand held Oreck and beater brush. That worked well. The central vac in our new monty is so strong that it picks up the carpeted welcome mats. I like the fact that you can lessen the suction with the slide level on the handle.

I will be buying a new beater brush from the manufacture because the suction is so strong, it burned out the Oreck beater brush.

Mark Krol was at our lot shortly after we received our first Montana 3900 FB . We were talking about the vac being the first thing you see when you open the door. I suggested that it be moved to the opposite side of the counter into the worthless narrow cabinet. He liked the idea. I asked if I ordered a new one, could I have mine there. He said he would see to it . When mine arrived, it had no vac. He sent me one. I installed it today, in the cabinet, out of sight. Somebody dropped the ball, but that's OK, we got'er done.

Shortly after buying our 2007 3500RL Montana, we purchased the Dysen DC35 cordless vacuum. I was amazed at how much it picks up. We liked the idea of seeing how much dirt, dust and animal (Australian Shepard and cat) hair you pick up. The best part is, you see when to empty the canister as opposed to not knowing how much is in the bag. Bags do clog up which decreases suction We mounted ours in the cabinet next to entry door, and used the power outlet supplying the coach vac. The coach vac is for vacuuming the truck and furniture. Only drawback is when using the power head, battery only last about 15 minutes. Very compact unit, two thumbs up.

I was not impressed with the built in unit. Hose is a pain to lug around especially in the far corners. Suction was not the greatest but it actually worked pretty good. We purchased the Dyson DC44 Animal rechargable, with the powered head about a year ago. LOVE the Dyson..... May never use the built in unit again. The Dyson is just so quick and easy to use.

The built in vacuum is good for getting stuff out of corners, sucking up bugs off the walls/ceiling, and general dust gathering. It does have good suction. Bascially it's a stationary canister vac. However, that said, we have another small portable upright that does a better job on the carpets, in our opinion. Plus, the hose for the built in IS a bit of a pain to maneuver around. After the season is over, for a real good cleaning we bring the big upright from the stick house out and give the carpets a good going over.

We've been using the Dyson DC35 since Dec 11th '13 and haven't even looked at the built-in. It's just amazing how much this thing picks up and how convenient it is.
