Slide Awnings/Covers

What is the experience with slide awnings on 3400RL collecting water? On a SOB, had a major problem with water accumulating during heavy rain on 16' slide requiring a broom to remove before able to retract the slide. Monty is in for repairs one of which is a leaking bedroom slide. We didn't order slide awnings on the 2011 3400 because of bad experience with Cardinal. Thanks,

The water pools cause the topper is not installed up high enough with enough angle, probably because there isnt enough room to put it up there.

All 3 of mine pool, but with level up, I just raise the front up, or down, and all the water runs off. Then push LEVEL UP and we are good to go.

Gee, I wonder if the old fashion front landing gear will do the same up and down thingy.
When in a location for an extended period, I put 2 small beach balls under the long awning. Just don't forget to remove them.

Water pools on one of my slides but I don't see the need to take a broom and remove it before retracting. Just retract it and the water will roll right off and onto the ground. Just don't be standing next to it.....my friend Wayne can vouch for that!

On larger slides, water will collect.

The water on the Cardinal would not run off and the awning would be pulled into the camper if you just ran the slide in after heavy rains! I am wondering if the 3400 ever has this problem if properly installed. The angle was probably the problem since the Cardinal had a small window above the slide preventing a steeper angle. Again, wondering about the 3400.

Water would pool on our large slide topper on our 2007 3400. The other three were mounted high enough not to pool. We closed the slide without getting the water off first with no problems. Just remember do not stand in the door with the door open. You will get a surprise.

YES, the old fashion front landing gear will do it also, just takes longer. But don't forget your rear stabilizers.

And besides, I like playing with my new LEVEL UP!!! Greatest addition we've ever done.

When we were preparing to leave for Fla in Feb, there was about 3 inches of snow and ice on top of our toppers. Patiently sliding the slides in and out slowly unloaded the stuff. Without the toppers, we may have been delayed. When water collects on ours, I extend my wash brush to it's longed length and hang it on one end of the topper pulling it down to the top of the slide allowing the water to run off.

Same here, things do collect on the big slide but come off as it's coming in. One thing no one has mentioned yet about the usefulness of the toppers is protection from the heat. Since we winter in AZ and summer in KS heat is a major issue. Since we put the toppers on the slides are much cooler during the day.

Water collects on our large door side slide topper but I do as others have suggested and let the slide in slowly. The water drains off without any problem. Tim

Glad i have the toppers. yes, water used to collect when it really rained due to the low angle from monty side to outside of slide. I made standouts out of 3/4 inch pvc that slide in under the toppers and hold them taut. since we sit in one spot for a long time, it is no big deal to put them together and slid them in place. During travel, i don't install them. John

I saw a trick where someone put a blow-up beach ball (to adjust the size) under the center of the large slide to keep out the sag. We haven't been out in enough rain yet, but I keep thinking I might try it.
