TRUCK CHOICE

if given your choice what truck would you purchase Chevy, Ford or Dodge. We are not loyal to any brand but looking for new truck and just wondering what you guys would choose and of course WHY.

Chevy/GMC. Duramax/Allison reliability.

Loaded question full of opinionated answers
I suppose most make their choice on previous experience or comments of other's experience. In my short time here I've seen Ram problems, Chevy/GMC problems and Ford problems. When I've found reliability I stick with it and that's why I bought the Ford F-350 6.7 and couldn't be happier with a truck. The KIng Ranch interior is the most comfortable vehicle we have ever owned and has never left me wanting or wishing for more. It seems to me that all three make a great vehicle but I've had or seen interior and body problems with Ram/Dodge and Chev/GM. Never really had any mechanical issues with any of them. Right now I would probably be looking at a '17 Super Duty. Lots of trouble with pre 2011 Ford/International diesels but I never owned one. JMHO.

Whichever one fits your butt and your wallet. There are pros and cons to each, but in the end they are all good haulers if you get one big enough for your RV.

For the first 25 years I never had anything but a Chevy. And they were all great. Then a Chevy salesman made me mad and I drifted to the Ford and Dodge dealers just to look. Have had nothing but Fords for the last 25+ years and all have been great. Never owned a Ram. Did not like them 25 years ago when I first looked, but they do make some nice looking trucks now. Any of them would be worth considering and I don't think you could go wrong with any.

But after the way GM has treated us on some 3500 Express vans we own for our business, I will never buy another GM product.

They all have their pros & cons. I am a GMC/Chevy fan but it also helps I get the GM discount and I have always liked the Allison tranny and Duramax combo. Diesel is the only good choice anymore regardless of brand. Part of it is dealer/service quality in your area and also sizing the truck for your trailer. As long as you treat the truck right with good maintenance, not pushing it too hard towing, etc, all should provide good life.

We live in Ford Country and many of our friends are Ford Employees or retired Ford Employees so it is not hard to get a Friends and family PIN number every year.I think it is the "X" plan and it saves a bunch of $$$ so we have Fords. If it was Chevy or Dodge Country we would have one of them.

Mountain master would be at the top of my list if I had 120 fat ones in my pocket...but I wouldn't walk away from a f550 or 650 too quick either. Yeah, I know you said the big three...that's why I put the bigger ford products in my reply. After seeing the titan two tow vehicle at ellsworth afb, I lusted for it to...but top speed of 35 seemed a little slow. John

You have to buy a Ford - you know we have heated tail gates for pushing. Chevy's and GMC are good too - 93% of them are still on the road the other 7% made it home. Just kidding here....all three manufactures' are making good trucks and can handle the Montana. Now to throw other consideration "dually" or SRW" and "3/4 or 1 ton". Everybody has their opinion. Mine would be a 1 ton dually for towing. If towing is occasional then a SRW 1 ton. Good luck!

In my case the dealer is a big factor in my Choice, I have been dealing with a GMC Buick dealer for over 25 years. SO i drive GMC and Buicks.
I know over thd years on a few occasions I was in a gray area on Warranty
Anc they stepped up to the plate.
The Service Mgr told me once you take care of us we will take care of you.
Like Cheers eveyone knows your name

Most people would like for you to have what they have it validates their wise choice. They might wont something different from what you think is important. You can't buy a bad truck today. They are all excellent. For you to get the best truck, best for you that is you are going to haft to do a little homework. Go look at them pick up a brochure on each. Go home and study them. Decide what trim level you won't what options. Then go back and drive all of them. Drive them with the trim level and options you won't make a list of the things you like and don't like. Then drive them twice more. This is a big investment get the one you like. Don't make a mistake at the dealer. You can have the best truck best for you. It probably won't be what I would choose, but then it ain't my money.

Like Rich, I live in Ford country. On a quiet night you can hear a Chevy rust. I have been a Ford man since 1972 and nothing will change that. A Torino, two Mustangs, an F100, two F150's, an F250 and now an F350. One thing greatly bolstered my opinion of Ford. During all the bailouts, Ford did not take a dime.

I am also waiting to buy a new truck and I am more open to all three brands than ever before. Probably leaning a bit more towards a Ford of Chevy but willing to look at a Dodge. Like stated earlier the LD International, Freightliner or Mountain Master is probably the safest best thing for us but probably not on my list with the size of my Montana.

As for the big three I have read horror stories on all three. Motors , transmissions and drive trains not yo mention the body and interior. I think they all make good trucks, just a few bad ones like Keystone.

Pulling 13500 lbs with a 2016 Ford F350 and am very pleased. Did a ton of research and they all have their pros and cons. They all have comparable torque to the rear axle with the Dodge payload being the highest (at least last time I checked) but head to head the Ford pulling power is what sold me. Check out "The Fast Lane" on Youtube aka www.youtube.com/channel/UCO-85LYfB61OP4SRAgpfncw . A nice comparison video towing a "Crusader" rv, comparible in size to Monty, up a decent grade. Listen for the critique comments while the tests are underway. Also negotiated a lifetime warranty on the power train with the Ford. That put me over the edge.
Other videos from the "truck" guys:
Let us know what you decide and why.

I am a brand loyal Chevy guy. First car was a '70 Nova SS396 (no, it wasn't new), and it went on from there. This is my 3rd Silverado and 2nd with the Duramax/Allison. I'd like to sit here and pump you up on all things Chevy, but the fact is, all of the big 3 make awesome trucks nowadays. No offense to Ford, cuz they're great trucks and pullers especially with the 6.7, but I never was attracted to the looks with the newer body style, although I do like the way the dually wraps around the back tires. The Dodge is a good looking truck, especially the dually. I think the Cummins needs some more time in the field to prove itself, however . Like was mentioned earlier, find the one that will do the job with your Montana, and creature comforts that work for you, and take the plunge. They're all good trucks.

I was never brand loyal. Bought Rams in the past since they were a bit less money around here than the other two. Switched to a non Ram product for a year last year. It was my dream truck since my budget would finally allow it. I'm now Ram brand loyal. My dream truck turned into a turd and the manufacturers handling of the issues made them a stronger word for turd. I'll be a Ram buyer until they or I no longer exist. I wish it had worked out with the other truck as it was exceptional in every way, it just wouldn't run for more than a couple thousand miles before needing a piggy back ride on a flat bed. There's always more to a story but this isn't the forum for a full discussion.

I never picked up on the "brand loyal" thing we purchased what we needed whatever the brand .Being in Ford country with the Ford Employee discounts means that of my 4 trucks three were Fords one was a Chevy all good trucks. As for cars when I was buying them we had every brand over the years I liked to change around. We had all good ones. Helen has been picking the cars for several years Chevys for a while and now Hondas she leases them I pay half of the lease.
