Got the Hopper put in
Had the Hopper from Dish and one Joey installed today. Should be a real improvement over the single receivers we had before. In addition, the Joey was installed behind the bedroom TV freeing up the space in the cabinet where the old receiver used to be.

Dick, Are you guys stationary and not mobile now? What satellite dish are you using? I was told I couldn't use my Hopper from the house in the Monty.

We've got a Winegard Traveler and here's a link to how Wingard says to hook the Hopper and one or more Joey's to it. We got the Traveler last year just for this, but had to wait until our two year contract on our single receivers was up. The carry out won't work with the Hopper and of course neither will the Tailgater.
No we are not stationary and originally they told me if I wanted a Hopper they would sell me one, but won't put anything but a single non-DVD receiver in an RV due to supposed damage to the hard drive by bouncing around. After some back and forth and a threat to go to Direct TV it was suddenly ok to upgrade me to a Hopper and Joey and to send an installer out (something else they don't ever do) to install it for me for "free" as long as I got their equipment protection plan. Since I now have the plan, guess who's going to fix the Hopper if it really can't take the traveling. It's just hard for me to believe that our laptops and the three external hard drives we've traveled with for years are that much better than the hard drive in the Hopper. I guess we'll find out. One thing I've found when you're trying to get something reasonable out of Dish that they don't want to do because you RV is to do it on a live chat. That way if things go south I have a printed record that I didn't hide anything from them and can hold them to their promises. It's how I got them to install the two singles last time.

I had the Hopper installed a couple of month ago. I only have the carry out dish and they never said anything about hooking up to a trailer. They send a tech out to install. The only thing was it was using all our internet from out satellite set up and we disconnected it and so far all is good.

That's true, the internet gives you some cool apps that work with it, but will use all your allowed data and more.

I remove the Hopper and Joey from the house when we travel and everything works great. When they installed the equipment in the house they also install a splitter in the Montana. All I do is remove the Hopper and Joey from the house and connect them to the splitter in the Montana.

It's interesting how you talk to one bunch of folks at Dish and they say absolutely no and then you either threaten to change to Direct or talk to another group of folks and they're very helpful. One of the things I hate about customer service these days, and it's not just Dish, is that threatening is a necessary skill now days to get what you should have gotten in the beginning anyway.

Dish told me "No way!" I even threatened to go to Direct. Didn't do any good. So - I bought a Hopper and 1000.4 antenna. I activated it with Dish for My RV on Saturday and had a heck of a time getting the antenna tuned to the satellites. Finally managed to get a good signal (between 60 and 70) on all three satellites today. Now my Hopper is stuck in the 833 screen. It keeps running the "switch configuration" phase. It will run all the way thru 4 of 4 on all three tuners. Then it says "Please wait while network table is updated." It will do that for a few seconds, then it resets and starts over. Does anybody have any idea what the problem is? I'm so frustrated and am about ready to just call and cancel this.

Steve & Gina,
If you have the original Hopper, do yo have the duo node installed? It takes 2 feeds from the antenna, then one out to the Hopper.

I think Dishes biggest concern about the Hopper in the Rv is if it (the hard disk specifically) is running while in motion. Since it's not in our 5th wheels, I don't think it's an issue.

So very true. Recently had a less than year old HP all in one printer fail due to a bad print head, an apparently known on-going problem. Got on chat line with HP customer service. They said it was not repairable but they would send a new one for about $100. I ask why I had to spend $100 when the printer was less than a year old. Policy, he said. I said fine, I would go buy an Epson. "Hold on a minute, let me push this up", he said. Shortly I got a message that a new printer was on the way, free of charge, free shipping, free return of the old one! Very annoying.

Got it figure out! Was going to replace the LNB, thinking it was bad. Turns out - I hooked the LNB up wrong when I put it together. As soon as I pulled it, I saw the problem. I am up and running! YAY! Persistence pays off.

Hope you get it!! Last year had a problem with our HP printer only after 3 weeks old. On the phone for hours trying to figure out a problem.....and they finally said they would replace it free of charge....and am still waiting for it. Took mine to a local shop and it was fixed with no charge.

I did get it. Next day, overnight delivery. Guess I got the right person. Like Dick, I think you have better luck using on-line chat than actually calling.

Just got off the phone with Dish. Already discovered two channels listed in the package I picked, are not in my guide. Apparently, The dishformyrv.com website isn't the official one. So the packages listed there aren't accurate. Have to go to dish.com to see the official channel line-ups. (Picture an eye-roll here.) I so wish satellite and cable companies would go to an a-la-carte option so we could pick what we want. Out of the 190 channels I'm paying for, I will probably watch about 20 of them. I really like that they count all those music channels and pay-per-view channels. Makes it sound like you are getting way more than you really are.

About a month ago I had the new Hopper3 installed in our Monty for free and with no new contract. This is the one with 16 receivers. All they had to do was install a new hybrid LNB on my tripod mounted Dish 1000.2 and I am locked on to the EA birds. Works very well and it is VERY nice to not run out of receivers. So far I have recorded up to 6 programs at once. It is amazing what a long term customer can negotiate with a customer retention specialist!
