Could not resist adding to the maritime fleet

The last couple of times we were in Sam's Club I was inexplicably drawn to a small ride-on-top kayak (8' length). $199 for a kit that includes the paddles. We have a sit-in 10' kayak that I mess around in on the river, but the ever-present of feeling like the daggone thing is going to flip with me in it is unsettling to say the least. The ride-on-top models are supposedly more stable since they have a flatter bottom profile. So, the third time is a charm came to fruition, because I could not pass by the display again this weekend and ended up bringing it home. I was diplomatic about it at least, I was itemizing everything DW had in the cart and when her total hit $200, I immediately sprung into action and asserted that since she had spent that much, I was entitled to it. So, after the assertive statement (and just a little bit of grovelling, begging and pouting) she gave in to my charm. Now, if I could just magically make the river water temperature get substantially above the 38 degree mark, I may be able to test it out! She is truly the admiral of a fleet now with four water toys in all! She is adamant that she will not be using either of the miniature water toys!

There is now one available that actually comes is three detachable sections. It can be put together either as a single or a double.

We have a Sea Eagle inflatable Sport Kayak http://www.seaeagle.com/ and love it....we have used it everywhere for the past 6 years. The great thing is it rolls up and stores so neatly in either the basement or in the truck. Takes about 10 minutes to set up and literally you can carry it like a back pack to whereever you want to use it.

I saw that in the new Camping World catalog. Threatened DW with it, told her we could set it up as a tandem, then when we are on the water I would detach it and she was on her own!! That is when the argument started and she said that if I did it would definitely leave a mark!! (Kidding on her response!)

When you try the new toy out be sure that your DW is filming the adventure just in case it could prove interesting to the rest of us on the forum

The new toy is the stable one, the time for entertaining filming would have been when I first ventured out in the sit-in kayak. As long as I was paddling, I was fine, when I stopped paddling, it usually got very interesting!

Believe it or not Jim, part of the kit was actually a sail!! So I guess in a way it came equipped with a motor. That sail it itself, if it was ever used could provide some entertaining footage based on all those sailing fail clips on Youtube!

A kayak with a sail is NOT a kayak. I can't imagine how one flips the kayak back up when it's got a sail on it.

Out here in the West with its mountainous whitewater riverways you do NOT want a sail.

Art,
You have no worries of seeing me on any type of turbulent water in a kayak. I even avoid the boat wakes out front and have yet to venture very far from the dock!! Here is a view of my kayaking territory, calm and serene:

You can see the troublesome sit-in kayak on the right, I will be adding another rack this spring to another section of dock finger that I am building on the left side of the picture.

Got it.... Nice fleet! Well get a captain's cap anyway. I think it would look good on you.

Thanks Dave,
When we bought the house (picture is from front porch) the only thing in the river was the pilings. I built the dock single-handedly in about 150 hours one Spring. It is our solace from the hustle and bustle of the working world (other than camping of course).

Bingo, You need to get pilots license and buy a float plane so you could dock it there also. That would make you a complete adventurer.....Phil (pilot, no plane, no boats, no RV no more). (Cannot get a medical issued either, oh well, pottery and glass work are my two new passions, may try RC airplanes this summer). Happy camping this summer.....

I remember watching you build that dock as you went thru it here on the forum. Lot of work but a very nice job and now a lot of enjoyment.

I intended to post the slideshow link again for the construction in case anyone else was interested, but Photobucket is upgrading their site and as of now the slideshow is not available. Will be adding a single finger to it this spring to tie it all into the last piling which is not shown but it sitting all alone about 26 feet away from the rest of the dock. One of these years, I might learn to slow down a little........Not!
