PULLRITE SUPERGLIDE MAINTENANCE

We have a Pullrite Superglide 18K hitch installed in our RAM.

The manual suggests that the hitch be disassembled every year for inspection & lubrication. I lubricate our hitch twice a year without disassembling it. I also maintain the coating of the hitch by removing any rust & grime & spray painting any bare spots.

I'm curious as to how many Superglide owners disassemble their hitch & how often do they do it. Or any owners of other brands of sliding hitches.

Thanks for your comments.

We have a 16K,I don't see any reason to disassemble yearly if you keep it clean and moving parts lubed. I just think they are being extra cautious for the people that don't do any maintenance to cover their a-- :-) I flip the hitch when I remove it to check it out and see if okay.

I have only disassembled mine once...after 5 years....when I changed over to the dry lube from grease...no problems found....I do inspect it every years end when we remove it from the truck in the fall... I take the head and clean it well and check it good....have had mine for 8 years and all is well....

I do remove the bolt where the head pivots side to side, and grease
It with wheel bearing grease, as described in the manual. It is not
difficult, and only takes a few minutes. There is no other way to lube
this pivot point, so this simple chore makes sense.

I've pulled the head off and lubed it as instructed once in the 4 years I've had it installed. It is covered when not in use and I lube the plate on the pinbox, top of the head and both rails with 3-in-1 oil each time before I hitch up. It operates easily with no binding. I also check the adjustments regularly. I see no need to pull it apart every year.

I have: tightened the nylon center block bolt to remove a little slack
Removed the head to lube the pin lock slide mechanism and rotor with synthetic motor oil annually
Sprayed the top and inside of the slide rail tubes with Slip Plate graphite lube daily while traveling
Applied black spray paint anytime i see exposed metal
kept it covered with Pull-rite's cover when not traveling
coat slide rail tubes with Slip Plate before covering
Ours was installed in the truck in 2009; everything still operates as new
