Cool security camera picture
Just thought I would show a picture that one of my security cameras took back home. Has nothing to do with anything, just thought some of you would enjoy.

We have a regular security system but interested in the video system. What does it take to set a video system up also. We have terrible cell service at home so cellular is not an option. We have satellite Internet.

Prices have come way down on systems, but you asked the million dollar question. As you can see, the camera that caught my bird is a little washed out by the sun. If he had waited 60 minutes to get his picture taken the colors would have been more vivid. My system is on the lower end of the cost spectrum. Tiger Direct is you best bet right now on a 4 camera system. You've got to be willing to run wires and do the whole installation yourself or spend a fortune with the ripoff artists that sell whole systems.
My system, including monitor, was less than $300. Here in the RGV, in south Texas, the ripoff artists sell the same system for $1200 installed. TigerDirect.com has a decent system for $199 less monitor. So long as you have a router in your Internet system, it's pretty easy to be able to view your cams on the Internet. Just make sure the camera system you install has Ethernet.
We'll get into IP cameras latter, which is the camera that caught my Northern Flicker Woodpecker. I've got 9 cameras around my property back home. 2 $300 systems and 1 $130 PTZ IP camera that I view everyday from my Android phone or my Laptop from 1000 miles away. Since we LongTime, I'm in the process of putting a system in our Montana.

The camera that caught the bird is my PTZ IP camera. It is a stand alone camera and is not connected to my other cameras. It will take a series of pictures when it detects motion and email them to me, unlike my others that will record video. I really like it a lot as it is fun and nice to be able to control it from 1000 miles away and/or zoom in on a license plate if someone is in my driveway or turn it and look at my house or one of my outbuildings.
BTW, you didn't have to start a new post. I certainly don't feel like you were hijacking my post.

This one is the same model as mine and it's nice to see they've only went up $20 since we bought ours. These people ship pretty fast also. They have a load of info on their sale, but if you have more questions, ask and I tell you what I know and can.

You better be careful Ozz or your place is going to start looking like ours. You would think we are guarding Fort Knox with all the cameras we've got mounted. We started out with X10's and never bothered to take them down as that would have been a Major PITA.

A wireless router and Internet if you want to view it away from home on your computer, smart phone and get emails for motion. I use a Netgear WGR614v10 along with my internet modem.
