Goose box 5er change

Has any one changed there king pin to a goose neck have read a lot of advantages in changing it over

I went with the Andersen Ultimate. Love it.
Advantages:
1) no modification to the trailer.
2) weight-at least 100 lbs less than conventional hitch.
3) cost less than $850.
4) super easy install/remote. My truck isn’t always just a TV.
5) no chucking while towing.
Bonus- my teenage granddaughter often installs it for me.

We have the Reese Goosebox. We had the Anderson Ranch Hand on our previous smaller 5er and it worked ok, but the Goosebox has 2 shocks and an air bag. What a ride improvement!! 20K rating too. I have a fold down ball in the bed of the truck, so the bed is open when not towing.

That’s what I heard the hitch is $1200. The goosebox is $1200. So it’s a wash I have the OEM pucks and the hitch ball is $120.00 is it easy to hook up and drop never did a gooseneck

This topic has came up many times here. A conventional long goose neck is not recommended. The frame on these campers aren’t strong enough to support the additional torque that long hitch adds to an already marginal front frame.
I think it will void your frame warranty.

Agree.

Unless something has changed in writing from Montana, goose necks are a no no.

At last years rally it was noted that the AUH was on the Approved Component list

In April 2019, Camping World had just received a letter from Keystone that stated they are now allowing the Anderson Ultimate.

Have a friend owns repair shop in Texas, when I pulled my 2019 3761 fl in he said get rid of that gooseneck. He called a top dog with Montana who told him he was correct. After battle with dealer who wanted to know who we talked to replaced with 5th wheel at no charge. My buddy told me Montana has paid him a bunch on frame damage.

I have the Reese Goosebox and at last year's MOC rally it was confirmed with Lipperd during their seminar the Reese was acceptable as it doesn't stress the frame. I swapped mine out when we bought our Monty so I only have experience with this set up but I love it. It is very smooth towing. I too swapped out the air relief valve with a plug. The new Gen 2 Reese has solved that air leak problem as well as has more adjustments to get it a little higher from the sidewalls of the bed.

I don't know what the current state of what is or isn't allowed.

But...

I would highly recommend getting it in writing (email / letter / whatever) stating that a hitch change to the trailer is all goodness with the frame warranty. I say this as when we were buying our current Montana we were going down the gooseneck route, the dealer as all about it, claiming they had everything locked and loaded with Keystone. On a whim right before the purchase I called Keystone and they forwarded me through to the frame manufacturer and nope, not an approved change.

I don't believe the dealer was trying to deceive, rather I don't think they ever asked the appropriate questions.

LCI only allows the use of the Reese Goose Goose Box. I was looking into it and contacted LCI to check on any potential warranty issues and they said it was okay to use this box.

Not yet. I need to sell my current hitch and going to use the money to purchase the goosebox. From what I have read, they get good reviews. Some bad ones, but that is with everything.

I may do the swap. I had one on my previous trailer (16k model) and my only complaints were the air bag leak down after a few days and the amount you have to lift the trailer to clear the ball. I don't see this being a problem with the hydraulic jacks. They have a lot of travel. With electrical, it sucked since the electric jacks only had about 7-8" of travel. If you were on an uneven site front-to-back, you couldn't easily get it unhitched and leveled again. Between the 3-4" of lift required to clear the ball and the 2-3" of distance to unload the truck springs, it was a pain.

I also looked at the Gen-Y hitch GH-8045 & GH-8055. They said they haven't got through all the testing with LCI. They cost more than the Goosebox, but eliminates the air bag out of the equation.

I have the Reese goose box as well. Reduced chucking a lot. It’s probably not recommended, but I took the pressure relief valve off of the air bag and replaced it with a plug. No more air leaks.

I have the Reese goose box 20K and love it. It did reduce chucking and now no big heavy hitch taking up space in the truck bed

Have the Anderson hitch. LOVE IT. Im 110 lbs female and can take it out of truck bed myself. Tows great. No problems
