Exhaust Brake
I don't want to start a "Who's Best" war but I would like to know if any of you are using a US Gear Exhaust brake on your truck and what you think of it. Do you think it "Holds Back" as well as others on the market? I am talking about 7-8% downgrades. I am considering buying one for my 12V Dodge, so I don't have to change the engine valve springs.

Mike,
Your post gives me an indication you believe you need to change valve springs for other exhaust brakes. I don't know but do subscribe to Turbo Diesel Register (TDR) for my Dodge engine Tech support. I suggest you ask your question there.

John,
Because of the back-pressure on the exhaust springs exceeing 60# when using the brake. It has been recomended to me to change my OEM springs with the 60# springs. That the origanal springs won't hold up to the pressure.
Thanks for your sugestion

I can't help you with the US Gear. But if you want to know about the PRXB Pacbrake, I had one installed last year. Rich

We have the Banks Exhaust Brake on our F-250 PowerStroke. It works well on those 7-8% downgrades.

We like our Banks Exaust Brake. It has served us well all over the US and Canadian Rockies.

Hookman, I beleive you miss read the OP's post. He has a deisel, it's a
'96 Dodge with a 12 valve engine, not the newer 24valve engine.

If it is 5.9 12 valve any of the major makers of Exhaust Brakes will work well. On my 2 5.9's I had a BD and a Pac Brake and I preferred the Pac Brake.

I have the Pac Brake on my truck. Having an older truck, Banks no longer made one for mine. I really notice the difference between having and not having the exhaust brake. I had the Trans Command installed with mine. You can adjust it. As soon as I take my foot off the gas, the brake ingauges. Until it reaches it's low rpm shut off. Back on the gas and it turns off. Going down hills I drop it a gear, if it is a large hill, let my foot off the gas and let the exhaust brake do the rest. Only have to apply truck brakes once in awhile.

Hey, Mike, haven't heard from you or seen you and Karen in many years. Still in Waco?
I can't answer your question about US Gear, but, you know, should you decide to trade that Dodge for a new one, the Cummins comes standard with a builtin exhaust brake that works well. Actually, you don't have to buy new. The standard exhaust brake began with the 2007 models with the 6.7L Cummins. Like ours. I know, I know, it's hard to trade a perfectly good Cummins. I don't know how they stay in business, those engines last so long.

Lou,
I think you would do better with Banks or BD Exhaust Brake.

Mike,
Don't know about US Gears Exhaust brake. I have a US Gears Dual Range Aux Transmission, but they no longer sell it, and now can't even get parts for it. If I were looking for exhaust brake, I would go with Banks or BD. Both companies are here for long haul. US Gears... I am not so sure.

The reason I'm going with the DP-Tuner is because it provides me with several custom programs for towing and everyday driving for the same price or cheaper than a Banks or BD exhaust brake.
