Galley tank drain
This is humbling. We are on our first trip with the Montana 3400RL. The problem seems to be that there is a third holding tank for the galley that does not drain with the gray or black water tank valves in the cargo area. The panel shows 'galley' is full and water has backed up into the sinks. No help from the owner's manual, and I must have not been watching when the salesman showed me all the systems when we picked it up. How do we drain the thing? Help, please.
Also, I am new to the MOC and the forum, so if this is in the wrong place, please direct.

Look between the two left wheels in the middle of the frameyou will see a T handle there and pull

We had the same problem. I think a number of people have been caught with the third tank full.

Dale and PJ, welcome aboard! Don't feel badly about not knowing about that third tank. It seems many dealers don't even know about it or don't think to tell their customers. You would be amazed at how many times your question has come up in this forum. I'm just glad you had the foresight to come here and ask.
By the way, it's "in plain sight" only if you are armed with enough information to know you should look for a third handle. Not many of us would think about that. At least I wouldn't.

The drain that most surprised me is the fresh water drain. It is almost hidden and very un-user friendly. It is almost like they never think you will be draining it.

Two quick comments: 1> How thankful we are that there IS a separate galley holding tank. It is a great feature. It is the tank that usually fills most quickly in our use. Fortunately our dealer called our attention to the valve 'between the tires'. 2> I use my fresh water drain before almost every trip so I will have fresh fresh water for the trip. No big problem for me.

I agree with you on this. Here's a solution some of us have used. These are off-the-shelf parts from Home Depot or Lowe's. If I recall, it's a half-inch thread (someone correct me if that's wrong). It threads right on in place of the cap.

We had the same problem when we first got our Monty. I really don't think many of the sales folks know about the drain. I had to find out here at MOC. Enjoy!

We also had the same problem only we took delivery of our unit in October, tried it out for a week-end and then winterized the RV. Tank fortunately didn't have a lot of sink water in it as it froze like a brick till we arrived in Texas near the end of December.....lucky or what!!!

Thanks for the pics Steve. I think I will do that or perhaps put an elbo on and run it over to the frame some where with better access and then connect it with strapping or some means of securing it and putting a spigot on it so I can connect a hose to control the drain somewhat. I don't know yet. I saw they just blasted some expanding foam in the hole to fill it in. Kinda weak. I may look at a better more permanent fix for that expanding foam.Is it possible to get some of that 1/4" think material they use under the rest of the coach and perhaps cut a small hole bring it through and then epoxy the patch onto the undercarrage panels to cover the whole more professioanlly?
Other thoughts welcome. However yours is simply, cheap and quick. Probably go with it.
Any idea what pieces you had to get and I see a clamp was that part of your fix?

Bob, that's the expanding foam I sprayed in there to help keep us from freezing up. I can guarantee it's not going anywhere. At one time I tried to pry a little of it out around the low point drains. That stuff is tough.
I had to buy only the valves. If you get the one with 1/2" (I think that's right) threads you just remove the old cap and screw on the valve. I like the idea of bringing it closer to the edge of the coach but we so rarely dump this tank that I didn't bother.

Steve: Thanks for the pic about the drainf for the fresh water tank...great idea. Also, I learned at our MOC Virginia Rally, around one of our campfires, about the galley drain which is between both tires. My dealer never told me about it and I guess I have been very fortunate that the valve has been in the open position since we bought our rig last July, therefore, thinking it was connected to another drain valve since it always showed "empty".

Look here at the new location for the low point drains. We went through the Montana factory tour today. They are listening to our comments, I'd guess, from the changes we saw. I'll post about more changes when I have some time to get the pictures ready. That may be a week or so. For now, here's the low point drains in the new ones and maybe some of the late 2005 models. These are 2006.
