It is what it is. Most of the time it is clear ATF Transmission fluid. Sometimes it is hydraulic oil. Lippert says for filing, any ATF can be used. A full synthetic or synthetic blend works best such as Dexron II, Dexron III or Mercon 5.

If you have the Level Up system they now reccomend replacing one qt of ATF (or adding if you are low) with anti-stiction fluid to eliminate/reduce the popping noises.

ATF is all I have used over the years except for adding the maxima 15fork oil in the new unit for the levels per lip pert tech page.

According to Lippert, the recommendation is any ATF, EXCEPT TYPE F. They claim Type F will not allow the seals to work properly. Go to http://lippertcomponents.com/support...veling/levelup and under the Lipsheets drop down, select 0291 for their fluid recommendations.

So again what is the clear fluid . ATF is red or pink. mine isn't ether one of them. Could it be strait hyd. fluid ? I only need to top the tank off and don't want to flush out the system. What did they use in 2011

ATF IS hydraulic fluid, just has some additives that make it work in a transmission, along with dye. Don't worry about the color or lack of it, it doesn't matter. Just add ATF and your system will be happy.

There is a clear hydraulic fluid, I forget what it is called, back in 1999 I bought some, could only find in five gallon jugs. Since 2002 when I got our first Montana, as I indicated earlier, have run nothing but ATF in all four units, and have never a problem. Have always used MERCON versions since my tow vehicles have always been Fords.
