Pin box bolts
Just for grins awhile back, while in a campground, we wondered around and checked to see how tight were the bolts that hold the pin box to the frame. Many were newer rigs, diff brands. Found a good many loose bolts not good.

Something to check for sure, I changed mine out recently, so I know they are tight.

Not sure how I would react if I saw someone walk up and check my pin box bolts while in a campground - I might have responded with a sliding bolt of my own

I replaced my OEM Lippert hitchpin with the MorRyde and torqued the bolts to 75ftlbs. Does this amount of torque seem appropriate?????
Thanks....

I think so Phil. If I remember correctly, the rubber spring bolts were to be tightened at 95#, according to the sheet I got with it. 75-95 should be the range for the big bolts too, but there must be specs on those too. Did you insure you got the right spring number?

I used a guide that gave the value of torque for the size, grade, thread and coating of the bolts. On my pin box I torqued to that guide 184 ft lbs.

Just looked at the installation instructions for the Mor ryde pin box, depending on size and grade bolt as to torque value ie; 5/8 bolt could be from 115 ft lb to 185 ft lb. Hope this is helpfull.

ole dude,
In defense of Brad (bsmeaton), I believe his post was meant strictly as humor.
As far as the 5/8" bolts go, you are correct, 75 lbs./ft. is not nearly enough.

I'll re-check mine, thanks for the tip. I'll let you know how far I was off. I just cranked them until my eyes started to bulge out.
Edit.
OK, I had two a little loose, turns out 'Eyes bulging out'=185# or so. I will say I am not a weak man and 185# on a 18' or so breaker bar; or as in my case a torque wrench is a hefty pull. So those of you without a torque wrench,(Shame on you) just get it as tight as you can, without a cheater on a breaker bar and it will be good.
Ozz

Yep - was meant as humor ol-dude. I was trying to imagine someone walking up to my rig with a wrench and checking torque while I was having my morning coffee. Have to admit it would look a little suspicious, but I was also sure the folks were aware of what you were doing.
But - take it how you want. I'm used to quick triggers around here on the MOC.

Thanks Lonnie, will add the returqueing to my current departure checklist. Leaving tomorrow.
OZZ, I didn't double check, I did order to replace Lippert 1116 and when it came in it had a tag on it that said it was replacement for said hitch. Should I double check it? How do I do that?????

Well, maybe call them, give them your order, or packing sheet number. You have to take the darn thing apart to see if it is the right number for your weight, as all exterior features are the same.
