I agree a lot of people on this forum have one but not all RV owners are on this forum. There are a ton of RV's out there unprotected.

That's true as long as there are just three major umbrella companies and they are all using the same business model (build as many as you can as cheap as you can) nothing is going to change. As long as they can keep spitting out junk and folks will buy it, that's what they will build. There is almost zero incentive for the majors to change their way of doing business.
I wish there was. It would be nice if we had options like the automotive industry. And despite what some on here are saying it wouldn't be that hard to do it, nor would it drive up the cost of base units. It's just a matter of the RV mfgs. being better organized. Heck they make how many different floor plans????

If your RV is to have surge protection, why don't they add it into all of there RV's regardless what package you buy. Your need tires to drive your rig (in our cases) tow our rigs down the road, so you would think with protecting 12, 24 and 120 volt systems. They up graded the TV's, noe they are putting in residential refrigerator's why not add surge protection. What, another $100.00 or so on the price You have to spend that money anyway to go buy a plug in type. Really....... Anybody agree or am I off base.

Simple really, Keystone is NOT responsible for the power you are connecting to, that's your problem. They want to keep the price as low as possible.

It's bad enough manufacturers put tires on new campers that will blow up within the first 6 months of ownership. i just can't possibly imagine what kind of cheap-o electric "protector" would be installed in an RV if THEY selected it. Yikes!

My 2019 3930 fb legacy 20th anniversary came with a built in surge protector. I wasn't sure of the quality so I have a portable also.

Exactly. I want to pick the quality of the EMS u it for my rig.
Gotta remember the manufacturers are counting pennies instead of quality.

Maybe another approach would be to look at the history of circuit breakers and fuse boxes. At one time they were pretty rudimentary. Now they are required and have improved and adanced a lot. With the advanced complexity of today's electronics, maybe it's time code be upgraded to include surge protection.
I use an external EMS unit. I wish they had a narrow verticle door that you opened (an electrical convenience center). It would be large enough to house the aftermarket EMS systems. If you don't have an EMS system then your chord would plug in where the EMS unit plugged into. But at least it would be locked up and out of the weather.

The ones that come from the factory in a Legacy are a very basic surge-only protector. They don't give you any protection from a miswired pedestal, high or low voltage, etc. So, yes, you do need an external EMS, even with the factory surge protector.
