Tinting shower skylight

I put bubble wrap from an Amazon shipment between the two domes. About a foot wide and long enough to fold 2 times (3 layers). Let’s all the light in and significantly decreases heat from hot to just warm. 90 degrees here in Florida today and keeps the shower area cool.

I washed the outer lens on top of the camper with Dawn and water and let dry. Took Gloss White Krylon spray paint and painted the top with a few criss- crossing, light coats of the paint. Now, instead of trapping the heat between the two layers in the ceiling, the heat never comes into the unit and the light still gives off plenty of light. I've done my last four campers this way. The paint also protects the lens from yellowing.

We put in a shade across the opening. When we shower, we slide it open. When we want light, we close it. We had our mini blind guy custom make the shade.

If heat is a problem then tinting the dome will only make more heat. The oxides that give the tint its shading properties achieve it by absorbing a percentage of the light passing through it, as you may know, you can’t destroy energy, just change its state.
So the absorbed light energy as it hits the oxide in the tint, is converted to heat!
Others have suggested painting the plastic to give it a frosted glass finish, which will work very well and still provide light.
I’d mask it up on the inside and spray it with a Matt White, then use a clear polyethylene Spray sealant over it to seal it and stop moisture from the shower degrading it.

Google RV skylite shade and several really nice options pop up--I just ordered one that has a shade that slides across the skylite so you don't have all the light coming early in the am--the backside has a aluminum like backing to reflect the heat back out--I think it was around 60-70 bucks.

That's exactly what I did several years ago. It works great and I can just remove it and install it anytime I want. I used white velcro so you can't notice it when the shade is removed..It's the perfect size no trimming required and it lets some light in so it's not completely dark.

I cut some styrofoam and inserted and made a cover for the one on the fan vent in the bathroom because it doesn't get wet. Works great and no mess at all. I left a link to the picture.

I sprayed white paint on the inside of the upper skylight. Downside: Had a hail storm that did not crack the skylight but knocked random pieces of paint off inside. Looks like star shaped holes!

I made a square out of poster board. Has insulating properties. I painted mine black to provide blackout in morning, (works great!)but could leave white. Then I replace the screws with longer ones and added some swivel clamps. Cut slots in the board so they fit over the Clamps. Now it is a simple matter to put board up, swivel the Clamps and instant shade or vice versatility.

We used white quilted fabric, from wall Mart, 3$ per yard,took the inner piece off covered it and taped it in place, the tape won't show. The whole project took led than an hr, it insulates and still lets in light as well, dropped the temp abt 10-15 deg

We cleaned the roof side with blue Dawn and painted with white Krylon paint. 3 coats and it looks great. Also still let's in light.

We went the terminal way. We took down the inner panel and covered it on the back side with the quilted foil insulation. We could care less if we had light and definitely didn't like the heat in the daytime. Took a few pics of our install to give a better idea of how it looks

A few weeks ago I taped 2 layers of thin bubble wrap on top of the inner clear plastic skylight before our week long trip to the Texas hill country. This solution worked perfect and it was easy to do.

Must another tip to this old post...being in Nevada, we get a ton of sunlight and blocking out the sun at the windows will help tremendously. What I do is put up metal discs/flat washers with clear silicon on the corners, cut the proper fleece/felt fabric color and size, then put it up with small magnets. On windows I open often, I put another two discs/washers halfway up the window frame to use as a halfway open scenario so that I can open the window to let some air/light in. Easy to remove the magnets, and even fairly easy to remove the silicon if needed. For the question of colors and heat absorption, I tend to use white as the first (outside) layer with black or navy blue as the light blocker.
