maybe I`m over reacting

Keystone and all it`s infinite wisdom decided to put most all the useful switches for lights, slides, tank heaters, awning, hot water heater etc. you know the ones you use all the time especially when setting up or pulling out in a cabinet above your head with a door that swings out into the hall way at the top of the stairs. Maybe it`s just me but I have read of others doing it but didn`t understand what they were talking about until we got this Rear Den. You end up forgetting to close the door when running around getting things ready and ram head into the corner that`s circled. You want to talk pain and suffering. I've hit it twice the wife has hit it once (when I left the door open) and yes she punished me severely This is begging to be modified. This is more of a safety hazard than the discussion on what`s the right type of brake line material should be used for a disk brake conversion.

I am right there with you! My husband has hit it several times, once causing a pretty good gash and blood! I hit it once and it darn near made me sick because it hurt so bad! I've seen several folks say the just took the door off but I hesitate to do that because I don't want to stare at all those switches.

If anyone has other ideas, I love to hear them!!

Self closing hinges would be one option.

You could hinge the door on the opposite side leaving the handle where it is so that it would not look so obvious. Maybe add a very small knob on the opposite side.

I hit my head once, learned to close the door ~~ I hope. If one more time I'll take the door off and change hinges to the top. Lift to open and when let go, it closes.

I have nearly done the same thing on this door several times already (we just got our new camper). I don't like the idea of a auto closing door because you would be constantly having to open it. I think simply removing the door and maybe trimming it out nicely would be the way to go? Its not like the switch panel is ugly is it?

Now if we could just find a way to make outdoor slide corners safe LOL....

I like the fact that my 2011 3455sa has all the switches etc on the wall in plain view and NOT behind a closed door. Would be a PITA to open a door just to turn a light.

You think that is a PITA? Those of us with In-Command do the following in order to turn on a light:

1. Open the cabinet door
2. Press a button to wake up In-Command
3. Enter digit 1 of the 4-digit pass code
4. Enter digit 2 of the 4-digit pass code
5. Enter digit 3 of the 4-digit pass code
6. Enter digit 4 of the 4-digit pass code
4. Press enter
5. Press the appropriate button to turn on the light
6. Close the cabinet door

Now that's real progress.

The only time I need to enter a code is if I want to move the slides. For lights I press the lower middle button to turn it on then press the lights button. Or you can just go to the appropriate light switch and flip it on.

What year and model? Mine is the latest version; "Pro Plus". The time out is adjustable; I have it set to the maximum, I think 30 minutes. It does not matter what you want to do; lights, awnings, slides, etc; you have to unlock it before doing anything. I asked Jensen if the pass code could be disabled; nope.

2017-Model 3810MS Legacy Edition. On my cell phone I have to enter a code and do the full routine each time, but the panel in the trailer panel is as I noted. Currently I'm not at the 5th wheel so I don't know the model number of the panel. Originally it seemed like I had to enter a code each time, but that hasn't been the case for some time. I just assumed in my playing with it I did something in the set up. I do need to unlock it each time right after towing so my cell phone program will function.

Yeah, whoever came up with that design should be hit in the head a couple of times. Proof positive designers never go camping or use their products.

My wife has been the victim of the door twice on our maiden trip.

4 digit code to turn on/off light.... hmmmm.. how soon until "Alexa, auto level camper."?

Ours is a 2015 3790RD and yes I hit my head a few times as did my wife however after the first 3 months or so we learned by the school of hard knocks to shut the door each time we open it..... hasn't been an issue in two years.

Get a back-up alarm that will activate when door is open.

DW said no to removing the door. I figure 3 or 4 more lumps and she will rip it off. Door not my head.

One of the problems on ours is the door of the cabinet opens towards our main entry door! If it opened toward the middle of the camper I think it would be over the countertop and less likely to be an issue?

just a thought

There`s only 2 ways to fix this either remove the door or change the way the door opens. The wife says removing the door and exposing the switches full time was not a option . Something about ruining the motif of a $73,000 dollar camper? So this works for us I can open the door from the floor and walk up the stairs under it with out hitting it. Closing it is as simple as opening it and it locks in place with the old door catch. A little oil on the hinges, parts from my junk box and we are good to go.
Let the blood letting cease.
