Hot water heater

I just flushed out the hot water heater real good in prep for winter and I had slivers of blue, I would say porcelien, come out. Is the tank lined? If it is I think this would be the reason why I get a foul odor from the hot water. I am thinking the lining has chipped off exposing the water to raw metal.

Here is a website that might help with your problem:

http://www.hot-water-heaters-reviews...er-repair.html

Scroll down to "How to remove rotten egg smell". This explains why it is there and how to deal with it. This is a good website on all things RV hot water heater related.

Hope that helps.

If it is a Suburban water heater it has a steel tank with blue porcelain lining. Slivers of blue in the tank would seem to indicate the lining has cracked. Probably not a good thing.

Not good at all, I would think rust would follow in the near future, your observation is probably 'spot on' as the British say. The chemical mix of bare metal with the rest of the stuff in there causes the smell, I would change the tank out.

If it's an Atwood it's not a lined tank, but the blue indicates a Suburban and a cracked liner.
