Factory installed surge protector

Just bought a 2020 3931FB Legacy, it supposedly has a hardwired surge protector installed. Unfortunately, I can not find it.
Considering there is no remote display, I have to assume it's the local display model.
Has anyone found theirs?

take off the covers on the bulkhead wall, the curved one and the inside one where the command center panel is. as far as i know it is just a surge guard and it does not protect you from high, low voltage or an open neutral. i add a progressive 50 amp ems

Agree with AhdMeyer. I have a 20th anniversary edition 3791RD with the legacy package. It's only a surge guard, not an EMS. I still have an external EMS from Progressive Industries.

We asked the question to Keystone directly and they confirmed that the Legacy package includes Progressive Dynamics 50 AMP automatic transfer switch high voltage Surge Protection Model PD52DCSD with remote display.
They replied...’All of PDI’s transfer switch have an onboard management system or EMS. Fluctuations in voltages are a common problem in electrical devices and have to be protected from those fluctuations. Once those fluctuations move beyond the EMS standard threshold, be it too much voltage or not enough voltage buffering of the voltage takes place. This buffing also has a limit and beyond that limit is what the surge protection is for.
I hope this has been helpful.’

Ok, found the transfer switch with integrated protection. I think I'll still use my portable Surge Guard at the pedestal. I prefer having the display for voltage/amps as well as the info on what the problem is.

Where the hell is the digital readout? I am having issues and I suspect the surge guard unit.

I'm still confused about whether the on board surge protector in the Legacy Package functions as an EMS or not. Can anyone definitely confirm one way or the other?

our ATS/surge protector PD52DCSD failed 4 weeks ago leaving us with out AC power until we could get mobile tech in to diagnose it. The surge protector and the ATS are integrated into one unit and if any part of it fails the whole unit must be replaced. IN our case the shore power side of the ATS failed but it turns out PD is no long making the PD52DCSD. We had to scramble to find a suitable replacement. We were going to add the PI hardwire 50 EMS anyway, so we got a new ATS and installed the EMS in front of it on the Shore power leg. Good as new. we submitted it to Keystone as a warranty item per their instructions. PD tells us they are having trouble getting repair parts so they just discontinued that model. The PD52DCSD has surge and EMS functions on it but it does not have the bells and whistles of the PI HW50 EMS. The PD52DCSD remote display only tells you if you are on shore or genny and a error light if something is amiss.

The legacy package includes a surge protector only. No EMS. At least up to 2019 anyway. Brochure indicates surge protector also. I would think if they installed EMS, that would be advertised since it is much better.

EMS is just a product name. Surge protecting comes in many levels of such protection and the PD52DCSD is actually an ATS with integrated surge protection and has some other features too) just not all the bells and whistles of the PI HW50C "EMS" models. The latter is a better product by far IMHO. Keystone did not want to spend the money on a better product so they used an inferior one to puff their sales literature. It is just business after all.

As we personally have found out, PD is having all kinds of issues with their PD52DCSD model and have since discontinued it but that is not Keystone's fault. The PD52DCSD works as designed and in most cases will do the surge protecting and other design heavy lifting... until it doesn't. The PI HW50C or its portable equivalents just do it better when combined with a decent ATS(if we are to do an apples to apples compare). If Keystone gets enough warranty hits on this item they will find a better or cheaper solution to maintain profits and sales. As consumers we want quality most of the time. Warrant issues is the last thing we want to deal with... for Keystone et al... its a bottom line algorithm nothing more. Having said all that we have no major complaint about the rig or Keystone so far. It and they have met our expectations.

Just like BiggarView our ATS/surge protector PD52DCSD failed about 4-5 weeks ago. Fortunately ours was covered under extended warranty ( we have a 2019 3791RD anniversary) w the legacy package. The mobile tech was able to find a compatible surge protector since the one that came on the unit is not available anymore .
As critical a component for our camper it looks like it would be built better

My PD52DCSD also failed within a COVID year's RV'ing, meaning very little use! Keystone has sent a replacement PD52DCSD, so obviously still available to the factory. Scheduled install, under warranty, next week.

all Legacy have this?

I am following this as my wife and I just purchased a used Montana with the Legacy package (a 2017)

we were told on our walkthrough that the unit did not have a hard wired surge protector built in...no problem, we just bought one to put on the post...

but is there a build date break for the built in protection?
thanks

I had a external surge protector at the pedal/ post too. However the ATS switch failed. I had power coming into to the ATS, but the 50amp ATS going out to the RV failed

Die to my extended warranty the tech replaced the ATS no charge for parts or labor

If your transfer switch has the PD52DCS remote display then it has the EMS functions (see center column of attached screenshot). We have purchased this PI 50A tester to check power before setting up: https://www.amazon.com/Progressive-I...ct_top?ie=UTF8

RMcNeal,
We just ordered a 3791RD Legacy. Can't wait to get it. We are transitioning to FT living.

As several have mentioned in this thread, I too experienced an ATS failure on my 2021 Montana 3791RD Legacy. I contacted PD directly, prior to seeking warranty repair, simply to educate myself. They did confirm two things; the PD52DCSD is discontinued and that they have several units on hand but only available as warranty replacements, they are not for retail sale. I then contacted Keystone and they confirmed that they were switching to a Southwire product for future installation. Couldn’t confirm the date of that switch nor the compatible model number of the new Southwire unit. I really hope it’s a plug and play switch, if not this could be a problem for those folks out of warranty. If anyone figures out the new Southwire factory installed item, please share. By the way, mine was under warranty and I installed it myself.

The hardwired surge protector has a separate display that is considered to be an accessary and has to be purchased with or without the unit, ours is installed at the display panel inside the rig. It has served us well in the last 3 1/2 years fulltime.

South wire Sureguard

Any ideas as to why plugging in my Honda 2000 watt generator on a 2021 Montana Legacy 3231ck would cause my direct installed surge protector to kick out?

I think this is the usual thing - something about the floating ground or such. You can buy a thing for like $15 or make your own. Do a search on generator and maybe grounding.
