Another Broken Holding Tank

Was conducting some maintenance today and installing some brackets to hold sewer hoses when I noticed a split in the gray water tank. This is the second tank I have had fail. The first was the black tank, so I guess this is better. I installed metal straps beneath the holding tanks to help support them. Sure hope this helps!! Any other suggestions while I have the bottom down?

Hi Doug,
I will follow this post, as I will need to replace my galley tank soon. I think many have done the gray tank, so hopefully they will pop in and offer assistance to you. Are you intending on replacing it, or going to farm it out?
Either way, good luck with it.

Thicker walled tanks is the real answer or military grade cross linked poly. To hold failures at bay with our existant tanks, our only options are supports to lessen their bloating as being filled...or maybe adding fiberglass/resin to the sides and bottom, but I think bonding to the tank would be critical and iffy. I was thinking of plywood or starboard under my galley tank supported by the straps I put in place when I mended it after the last failure. A wintertime project when not on the road anyway. John

Keystone is now using new tanks on their units. They are solid with no welds but unfortunately they are not made for replacement of the older style tanks that are made in two halves and welded together. We were told about this at the last Fall Rally and SUPPOSEDLY they are to be stronger and not break or split like the older tanks are doing. They did listen to us about the tank problems and have tried to correct that problem with the new tanks. We'll see what happens as time passes!
