Future Plans--Home at Last!
Now that we’ve sold our home and are full-timers at the Dillon KOA, some of our future plans have fallen in to place: I am most definitely retiring at the end of this school year , we're moving back to Texas (which will be home base for our travels), and we have jobs (volunteers) there! We spent several weeks at the Matagorda Bay Nature Center RV Park in Matagorda, Texas, over the summer and fell in love with the park and the location. So, we applied for positions as volunteer park hosts there for next summer. The person with the Lower Colorado River Authority (agency that runs the park and many others along the Colorado River) who assigns the positions called recently and told us that we have jobs at that Matagorda park!
We don't know yet which end of the park we'll be on, but since the two sides adjoin one another and both are on the river and righat the beach, it doesn't really matter. The park is fairly new and very nice and has a teaching/educational facility on site as well as a nice RV section right on the Colorado River and at the point where the river joins the Gulf of Mexico. Each site is large with a concrete pad and a picnic table, paved parking, a large grassy area, and plenty of room so that you aren't closed in by neighbors. The Colorado River borders one side of the park, and the beach and Gulf are on the south end. The registration facilities have exceptionally nice bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities . . . a great place to stay. We're excited! Knowing that we'll be on the beach for an extended period will help us get through the winter that is arriving in full force by Friday, with snow and below-freezing temperatures here in Montana.
We'll be at the park for 6 months, with the option to stay longer if we desire, which we probably do desire. After that, who knows? We will be free to travel or maybe just hang around Texas for a long time. Here’s a link to a slide show of the park and the educational building:

And below are a few photos of the Matagorda Bay Nature Park, including one of our Montana parked where we were last summer and where we'll be next summer:

Wayne and Carolyn,
Congratulations. The park you are going to be hosts at looks great! We must get down that way and enjoy some of that wonderful country. I know you will love the retired life! Dennis and Mary Kay

Aw shux! We'll almost be neighbors.

If you have not been before, make sure you visit Blessing, TX on a Sunday for brunch. I think you will enjoy it.

With snow last night, and after finding my car coated with thick ice this morning, the beach is looking better than ever. Brrrrrr--9 degrees here this morning, and a winter storm on the way.
By the way, I hope some of you MOC friends will be coming to Matagorda this summer. The fishing is great, and the RV park has a lighted pier for night fishing. If you are thinking about coming, you need to make reservations through the LCRA system very early. The sites are booked well in advance, particularly the ones that border the Colorado River. However, there are no bad sites anywhere, because even the sites fartherest from the river and beach are less than a 90-second walk to the water.

Welcome back to the Texas area. We are working in Kansas right now, but will be home around Christmas. If you are in the Austin area let us know, would love to meet you.

Colleen, I'm sure we'll be in Austin sooner or later after we move to Matagorda. Austin is our Texas home; we love it and won't be able to stay away, I'm sure! We'll give you a heads-up if we know we'll be headed that way. We'd love to meet you, too.
Carolyn
