Curt Hitches

Does anyone have any experience using a Curt fifth wheel hitch?

I have a Q20 and like it alot. It fit on the Reese rails left over from my years of Reese ownwership that I already had in my truck. I know many swear by Reese hitches, but once you go Curt ... you'll find it hard to look back. The detents and color coding in the hitch handle makes it hard not to hook or unhook correctly even if someone is bending your ear the whole time.

I have the curt Q20 and had it installed including the rails and brackets for 1100 dollar on my new Ram 3500 DRW. It has a camping world sticker on it but it is the same model. and I just love this hitch 4 way pivot easy on and off. it is a little heavy I have to have help to remove it off the truck but other than that I would buy it again. camping world had the best installed price but you might be able to find just the hitch cheaper somewhere else. Hope this helps.

Happy Camping.

We also have the Q20. I've been real happy with it. Like dieselguy mentioned, I like all of the indicators built in to help you make sure it is latched correctly. I also find it easy to see the jaws themselves.

Same experience as others. Installed it myself with no major issues. I like the 4 way pivot as well. It also separates into 2 parts so removal is easier, though the base is still heavy. I can do it myself, but if someone else is home I do a 2 person lift on the base.

I have had the jaws "stick" a couple of times, when they wouldn't close all the way around the pin. As mentioned, it is foolproof in that the color won't show green if it's not closed all the way, plus I could see the jaws easily from behind. I disconnected, hit the 3 zerk fittings with grease and a bit of spray lithium on the jaws and all was fine.

Great company support too, if you need it (I did for one question on installation).

Q24 with three years under heavy use in Hot and Cold Weather. Even the handle looks new. Greatest hitch I ever owned. "Listen for loud clank" when it sets. Hear it and your good to go. Don't hear it, your not hitched. The company is excellent to work with, gave me additional pins for free, when I wanted wanted spares. You can hook up at ridiculous positions, angles etc. . I could not do that with any other hitch I owned. Your making an excellent choice.

I just bought one of their front mount hitches for our truck and am very impressed with the look and finish.

Well Bye Ned there you have it ... a whole bunch of us chose wrong. Dag Nab It ... I sure thought I've had several years of service from a good hitch. I sure thought the color codes on my latch arm were near fool proof too.

Looking forward to delivery of our Q24. Again thanks for all the input from you folk who own and have personal experience using the brand, which was what I was looking for and makes this such a helpful forum.

In spite of previous post, we've had a Q20 for two years and about 20k miles towing our 3665RE without any problems. Doesn't always 'clunk' when hitching (depends on angles, etc.), but when the arm goes all the way in and I can flip the locking lever into it's groove, the jaws are locked for certain and will stay that way. I too, like the two part aspect and can take it on and off the truck that way myself. Don't know what advantage there is in a welded vs. stamped head - either one is a weight bearing platform for the kingpin plate. It's the rest of the structure that counts, and the Q20 has more than enough capacity for what I need.

Used a Curt Q24 slider for 2 years without any issues. Unfortunately, when I traded trucks, the new (pre-owned) truck came Ford prepped, meaning I can only use a Reese hitch. The rails for the Curt would not fit in the new bed. Had the Reese hitch installed and so far, no issues either. Sure did like the Curt, though. Someone got a great deal on a Q24.

Interesting. Installed the curt Q24 on the existing Reese Rails installed in our truck.
