Redwood Coast to Portland
We are going to be heading up to Portland and wondering what the best route would be. I know we can cut across the 199 thru Grants Pass to the 5 but that road looks a little curvy. Should we go all the way up the coast and cut over? Thinking we will take about 3 days to make the trip and take it easy. Thanks

If you have the time, taking the coast north is beautiful and no problem for the rig - lots of wonderful state parks along the coast. Enjoy!!

If you do find to have the time, the Oregon Coast drive is nice. I did it 2012, had a great time. There are many places to stay along the coast. The most curvy is in the California section. I cut back to Portland on Hwy 26 just north of Cannon Beach. Hwy 26 was a good road, no problems. Hwy 199 from the coast to Grants Pass is curvy. I saw truckers on that road. I drove it from Grants Pass over to the coast just with my truck. I don't think I would pull my rv over that road, but there have been others that have. slow to go till the Oregon border.

We are here now at the Orgon coast headed to Brookings midweek. We came from Portland through Salem, Lincoln city and are now at Seal Rocks Cove RV. Another Monana came in yesterday. We have done the 101 numerous times, no worries unless you need to drive fast. Lovely drive, much to see, many pull offs with awsome views, but always on the west side obviously. Enjoy the trip.

There are several roads from the coast to I-5. Personally 199 is not the one I would choose. I recommend (as have others) going north on 101 until just past Canon Beach and then taking 26 to Portland. But you can go from 101 on 42 (at Coos Bay) or from 101 on 38 (at Reedsport) or from 101 on 126 (at Florence), or from 101 on 20 (near Newport), or from 101 on 18 (near Lincoln) over to I-5.
Three days allows plenty of time and an easy drive from the Redwoods to Portland. I would stay on the coast as long as possible. I-5 is too boring to drive compared to the alternatives.

Are there any nice campgrounds close to Portland, and what would you suggest at Cannon Beach?

In Cannon Beach, Cannon Beach RV Resort , www.cbrvresort.com/.
It was a nice park. Spaces were close together. Had enough room for my rig. They do have pull-throughs. A lot of trees, satellite may have problems, but they do have cable. You can get fuel right at the park.

We've towed 199 from Grants Pass to the coast and it was not bad at all. But the prettiest route is straight up the coast on 101 to Astoria and then east to Portland, at least in my opinion that's the prettiest route.
