Rt. 71 south of I 80?

Has anyone used rt 71 south of I 80 in colorado to bypass going thru denver and colorado springs? It looks like a strait shot south, not many towns for fuel tho. Wondering if the road is ok for camper travel. It looks alot shorter than going down 76 to denver and then on 25 south. We are going down to durango. Thanks for any input.

Don't know about the road but there are truck stops at Limon on I-70.

we were on it years ago, to avoid Denver traffic. I remember it as being a good road, not senic though, and not much traffic.
