I-76 & I-80

Heading to South Dakota over Labor Day weekend. I've never travelled the I-25 from Denver to I-76 to Sterling Co. & pick-up the I-80 from Ogalala to Omaha. What are these roads like? Won't be taking the Monty as this is a "speed run" of sorts.
Thanks in advance...

We just came through Nebraska on I-80. If I remember correctly there was some construction eastbound on 80, but coming back through there wasn't a problem.

I-25 north of Denver is the roughest piece of highway I've traveled in a long time -- Missouri roads 2nd worst and this stretch from Denver north to their north Border almost makes MO seem like cotton (but not quite)

Other than that, rest of highway very good; normal summer construction and watch out for winds in Nebraska.

I don't recall the stretch north of Denver to the border being all that bad, but you won't see it if you use I-76, anyway. I-76 is a bit bumpy with a trailer for just a few miles out of the Denver area, but then it's a fairly good road. Never noticed the "bumpy" when traveling by auto. Where are you going in South Dakota? I-25 or I-29 (Iowa) are the only two interstate highways heading north/south in the direction of South Dakota. Travel safe!

I 29 and 80 are both fine, no rough spots that I remember and most of the construction on 80 is between Omaha and Lincoln, nothing real major, some shifting of lanes, etc. I 76 has a couple of rough areas, the passing lane is best but it is much better tahn a couple of years ago. We just went from Omaha to Denver a couple of weeks ago--made it in about 8-9 hours (in car)--that was with stops about avery 2 hrs to stretch--I don't like to take chances of blood clots, etc from too much and too long sitting.

We did I-80 from Lincoln, NE on into Utah just over a month ago and found it pretty good road all the way. The construction must be east of Lincoln.

The construction is east of Lincoln. Between Omaha and Lincoln. After all, all the Husker fans have to get to the games in Lincoln! Go Big Red!!!!!!

There is some minor construction going on I-29 just south of Sioux City where there was a low bridge that has been hit so many times that the DOT finally gave up and are raising the bridge. They have some heavy equipment there actually lifting the bridge to gain more clearance. It's about 10 miles south of Sioux City and they sometimes shut it down to one lane.

Fordzilla, I was wondering what exactly they were doing with that bridge south of Sioux City. Now I know. and yes, you always can tell when it is about time for football season as that is when the road between Omaha and Lincoln gets worked on--seems like the road people like to cause traffic jams, and there are some real good ones after the games are over, best suggestion is to not be in that area on saturdays after the game.
