What Pin Box is better the 5th Airborne or Mor-ryde> I understand one cushions up and down movement and the other forward, back and sideways. WE plan to do alot of touring in the future.

Can't answer your question. However we have been towing our 2955 with a standard 16K Reese hitch with no problems and it rides fine.

Your going to get a hand full of reasons why one is better than the other. So I will give you my two cents. We went with the Mor/ryde because we wanted to eleminate the forward/reverse motion. We already have air bags on the truck and traveling down the road, the gages bounce from 30 to 70 lbs when set on 50 pounds pressure. We can tell the difference on the forward motion of the Montana since the mor/ryde hitch has been installed. It is much smother. We have the new Reese Signature hitch which I think has better/closer tollerences in the pin connection than the older two jaws. We had a 20k reese on the old truck. And there were much more movement.

I can't answer your question either since my only experience is with the 5th Abn. It has a shock absorber for fore/aft control and a Firestone air bag for up/down control. Makes a big improvement.

Any of the air pin boxes should provide a much improved ride.

Our experience is with the Mor-Ryde pin box and along with the OEM Mor-Ryde RE suspension we have a very smooth ride. To me chucking (back and forth motion) was what I wanted to reduce and I picked the Mor-Ryde to do that.Folks with the trail air and 5th airborne also report positive results..

Don, I can pull my 2955RL from Prince George to Vancouver and still catch a Ferry and get back on the Island in the same day with no driver fatigue. I could do no better with a passenger car. I just have a standard 16K Hijacker hitch and I am very pleased with the handling and the way things ride in the trailer. You should try your rig out first to see if you need an optional pin box. Some combinations work better than others .

They're both good but don't give the same results. By that I mean one reduces chucking motion and the other reduces up/down motion. It depends on what you desire. The only way you can get rid of both types of motion is with an air ride hitch on the truck. Both the MOR/ryde and 5th Airborne will greatly help if you're using a standard Reese/Drawtite hitch.

This is just my opinion and it falls in the category of learning from other folks experience and your mistakes If I had it to do over again I would go with the air ride hitch on the truck and ols 1932 describes, They are pricey but , with the Mor-Ryde Hitch pin and the 16K draw-Tite hitch we already have @ 1900.00 invested. We went with 'cost effective" and IMO that was a mistake.

We have a Mor-Ride and I has been a big help! I also have air bags in the back of the truck which also helped. At the fall rally you may get a deal if Mor-Ride is a guest speaker.

After much cogitation, I finally decided to go with the 5th Airborne air pin. It provides shock absorption for both lateral and vertical movement. A contributer to the decision was finding the 5th Airborne at a reduced price. It is an incorrect assumption that the 5th does not handle the chucking issue.

Installed the Fifth Airborne on our 3500RL last weekend, and took it out for about a 90 mile out and back yesterday so I can recheck bolt torque per instructions. We're leaving for Bristol next week, and I didn't want to have to mess with checking bolt torque enroute.
Yes, the Fifth Airborne helps with both chucking and vertical movement. Interstate bridges that used to make live miserable are now no problem. It is hard to imagine the difference in ride the air pinbox makes. IMHO, it was money well spent!
We went with the 5AB-E510/E710, which is about 4 inches longer that the Lippert 1116 that it replaced. The extra clearance is really nice.

Sonny at Fifth Airborne was very helpful, and did not mind at all that I did not order from them directly.

If you want a real test of your hitch and/or pin box adapter, travel I-10 west through the Florida panhandle. If you do it enough you will really recognize how your ride is.

Talking of hitches, any have a gooseneck brand suggestion? The truck has a pin flip up I'll be using.
