I'm not familiar with Streets and Trips but with Street Atlas I can go into preferences and change which format is used.

I've traveled over most of this country, Spain, Portugal, Algeria and even to the end of the Aleutian chain. I always know where I am and where I'm going. Since I'm not where I want to go I don't have to worry because I'm not there yet. I know where I am because I'm still there. If I'm still there and I know where I want to go---- Do I use GPS, a compass, map, guiding star, dead reckoning, OR, just wander aimlessly until I find this place where I want to go? Then, there I am!

Bill, living most of my life now in the west, Nevada to be specific, a GPS has been at most a toy. There aren't that many roads, and a glance at the horizon and the sun (or moon) pretty much tell me where I am and what direction to travel. I've never been lost, but I've misplaced the rest of the world more than once (and mostly haven't missed it). I've been able to get where I am now, and I'm pretty happy with that.
The GPS doesn't eliminate the need to plan your trip or know what to do when it's destination doesn't turn out to be yours. I'm looking forward to doing some geocaching when we're in Quartzsite, though.

Firefighters have their own "GPS". We just run in where everyone else is running out.

You can do the same in S&T, as well as in MapSource and in my portable Garmin.
Firetrucker, I understand GPS usage for you but for us it's something we depend on, especially when in cities and areas where we've never been.
Sometimes when we're exploring I only use it for two purposes. One is to be able to see if that road up ahead goes anywhere or just deadends, then make our turn decision. The other is once we're ready to go "home" I just tell it to plot a route to get us home. It's really nice knowing I don't have to worry about what turns we took so we can find our way home.

Steve and Vicki, the reverse route is one of the great things about GPS. I remember my Boy Scout training that said to always look behind for landmarks so you could find your way out...that's hard to do (merry Christmas and we are so looking forward to seeing you).

Ahhh, yes, Bob. Landmarks. Those seem to be few and far between out here in this desert. All cactus look the same to me, I'm afraid. And these backroads sure take some twists and turns!
I'm still looking ahead, trying to remember what it is I was looking for when I started out....

I can't believe we'll miss Q this year; we've been so looking forward to it. Unforseen circumstances and expenses have short circuited our plans, though. Nothing serious, but enough to postpone our first trip until the spring fling in Tucson. We sure are going to miss all our friends and all the good times.

Looks like we will be in Quartzsite on the afternoon of the 21'st, all day the 22nd and leave the afternoon/evening of the 23rd. We will not have our Montana with us and will be staying in Blythe. We will try to look up the MOC group while there. How would be the best way to find you all and when would be the best time during that period? I do have a portable GPS with me.

This is HamRad (Dennis). Doug is on the road and I don't know if he has access while moving or not. But I'm sure you are more than welcome to come join us. We will make room for you. Actually since you're coming in on the first or second day you will have no trouble finding a place in the circle. We will look for you folks on the 18th or 19th.

Hey Dennis, be sure to make the circle larger so that those of us who arranged months ago to arrive later in the week will be able to fit in the circle.
