Need Some Road Advise

Has anyone traveled highway 60/180 out of Carlsbad to El Paso towing their rig? Debating taking the long route of 285 to Pecos, Tx and then I-80 to El Paso or taking 60/180 route. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

We took it (60/180) a couple of years ago with no problem other than a lot of long, straight, boring driving.

Thanks Aaron! I can keep from being bored on drives like that by listening to the 50's and 60's music on the radio and munching on goodies we've packed for the travel. Oh, when are you going to join us for the Montana Owners Club Central Plains Regional Rally? It starts on July 9th this year!

We'll see what the summer brings ... may show up for once. 2 years ago, I think we were both at Valley Vista RV Park in Benson just at the start of covid. We were meeting up with friends and the pool closed the day after we got there. They quit taking overnight travelers as well about the time we left. It was after the fact that it dawned on me, but I think you and some traveling friends were parked at the very southwest corner of the park. About halfway from Carlsbad to El Paso ... take a rest stop at the Guadalupe Mountains National Park right off the hiway ... it has a few things worth putting an eye on. We listen to Sirius 60's on 6, 70's on 7, as well as Radio Classics to pass time too.

Not to hijack the Thread, but as an aside, "What happened to the 60's channel on Sirius?" Mine now is something like "the coffee club".
OK back to the original topic.

Sirius has switched some stations around. It's now '60s gold on channel 73.

Can't believe they expect boomers to remember that?

The radio in my truck and in DWs Subaru changed station numbers but stayed in the same order that we had saved them…but we really only listen to 59 and 114.

Rondo,
Much of that road has been repaired/replaced in the last 10 years. Beware though, as the winds coming off of the Guadalupe mountains has caused more than one death on that road…..

Hey Rondo, my lovely wife and I live 35 miles north of Carlsbad and have traveled it several times. It’s actually a pretty good road though a little steep over the Guadeloupe pass. Going south it’s not too bad going up but go easy on the brakes going down.

We drove from Carlsbad to VanHorn thru the Guadalupe‘s last month. It’s a very scenic drive don’t miss it if you can. There’s a rest stop on the southside of Guadalupe Peak that was large enough for our LWB/41 foot fifth wheel. Great photo op. You can pick up I 10 back to El Paso in Van Horn which is closer than Pecos to EP.

We continued down to Marfa and Alpine for that leg of our trip. Lots to see including McDonald Observatory and Fort Davis. It is worth your time.

Well we made it with no problems. What a great drive. Great views and over the mountains was no problem. Just took it easy and enjoyed the ride. Roy & Georgia sorry we missed you while we were in the area. We were at The Ranch for a week so we could have gotten together. Sorry!
We're in Benson, AZ now and enjoying the warm weather.
