Those camping in this cold...

What is your temps tonight and tomorrow night. Just curious as to what most around the country (and Canada) are enduring in their Montana and any special problems during this coldest weather in 20 years. We are in Central Florida (Haines City) and wind chill advisories are posted here, but nothing like the rest of the country will be going through. What is everyone doing to prepare (besides the obvious of filling up on propane)?

I'm right with ya here in Lakeland. Close to 80 today and then on Monday in the real low 30's. Geezzz. I know it doesn't compare with what's happening elsewhere.

Stay warm as you can everyone and hope everyone's RV's stay safe.

Scott

So far it has gotten down to 5 below on Thursday and 10 below on Friday. We are comfy in our rig. We have 2 full 100# propane tanks and the 2 - 30# tanks on board. We are skirted and water line is heat taped. We also put the heat shrink window film on all the windows to cut the drafts down.

The only thing we get is frost on the windows and in the corners inside the cabinets even with all the doors open but if that is the worst at 10 below we will take it.

Bigboomer, where are you at? I should have mentioned that it would be helpful to state your current location that you are going to ride out this polar vortex.

Well we're not in our Monte -- and frankly glad we aren't-- up here in Omaha. We're sitting in the S&B and keeping warm here! The current temp is 9*with a windchill of -12! It's suppose to get down to -10* with windchill temps down to -30 to -40*! Sure is a far cry in temps when we have our MOC Central Plains Regional Rally in July! As we say "We always give our MOC family a WARM welcome at the CPRR!" If we held the rally now I don't think we could say that!

Dave & Scott, we're just a little South of you in Sebring. Nothing special, just have to move our Tomato plants under the slide and try and cover them just in case.

We're full-timing up here in NW NJ, where we had 8" of snowfall followed by subzero temps this past week. Our pipes and water pump froze one night (no leaks) and then our tanks froze shut the next night (for about 24 hours). It warmed up and we were able to empty tanks last night/this morning.

High this morning was lower 40s, but it's dropping all day to around 1F tonight with wind chills of -25 to -30. Tomorrow's high will be 9F with a low of 3F.

After emptying the two gray tanks this morning, I put RV antifreeze down 'em. Our water line is heat taped and insulated. Most of sewer line is PVC. We also have a shop drop light over outside water valves (which did not freeze up!). We run the furnace at 65 during the day supplemented by ceramic tower heaters or fireplace. Vent cushions in the two fan vents. We're not skirted yet, but will be as soon as weather permits. (Les, Dave found the skirting material at Lowe's yesterday, thanks!) We leave open cabinets so heat can get to interior pipes.

DH is off to fill 3 of the 6 30-lb propane tanks we have access to here. I'll do some in-advance cooking (including kolaches!) today in anticipation of losing water again.

We're fortunate in that the company we're contracted to pays for our propane and that we have an office trailer to go to for toilet, lavatory sink and heat if needed.

It's some Winter, isn't it??

Betty

We are near Montgomery, Alabama. Yesterday's high was 60, today 32. Night temps have been low to mid 20's. We have only the furnace and fireplace for heat, nothing added and have been perfectly comfortable at night. Don't want to go to the hassle to use heat tape and insulate the water hose, so we fill a couple water jugs for flushing and bring in the hose overnight. This is spring weather for those of us from the north, but the locals here are freezing.

Not camping, but at 12:30 am this morning, the power decides that it does not want to supply half of our town. We woke up at 1:00 am realizing it, so off to the garage equipped with flashlight to retrieve the Kerosene heater, can of Kerosene, and the ever trustworthy Honda 2000 generator. Two hours later all is in place with exterior grade heavy-duty extension cords running into the house to run our space heater in the bedroom. Wake up about five this morning and get to work on enhancing the configuration. Man and woman-handle the Kipor 3000 watt generator up the basement steps from the garage, (it takes both of us) and get it running as well after the obligatory trip to the gas station on the side of town that has power. Kerosene can is in the truck in the event I have to get it on the way home if the power is not restored. Projected temps of -6 degrees tonight with wind chills -30. We feel totally blessed to have the ability to adapt our camping skills and experiences to the S&B. Fridge is powered, have space heater, DW had her coffee this morning (the most important thing!!), and instructions were left on how to power up the big screen and the Directv receiver. Still no power at the house, Dad is at work and the womenfolk are comfortable for now!! Life is still GOOD!!! Count your Blessings, there are many who do not have such capabilities!!

Rich, if I was the dastardly type, I would wish upon you and the other part-time Floridians high winds to accompany your sub-freezing weather to at least get the wind chill down to something representative of us frozen northerners that you elect to abandon and leave behind in the frozen tundra every year. Thank goodness, I am not the dastardly type!! You all keep 'em warm down thar!!

Well, it has been a beautiful fall and winter until the past few days, here in NC. We have had a few freezing nights recently. But tonight we are promised 14 with a wind chill of 0. So, we will be in Fla on 1 Feb. We will be joining some of you at Westview Ridge.

The only thing we had to do to get ready for the upcoming cold spell was to turn off the air conditioners! I think we will need them again starting Thursday though (Ft. Myers).

It seems that our camping experiences are helping over and above what our non-camping neighbors are able to handle in unusual weather situations.

Just curious, how does your skirting attach? Is it custom made?

It is 17 degrees here at Paul B Johnson State Park just south of Hattiesburg, Ms. Enjoying a beautiful sunrise as I type this. We actually had to use propane to keep the RV warm. Should start warming up now as the weatherman says.

1 degree this morning in East Tn. 3 ceramic heaters, heat tape and dripping the faucet. furnace had been kicking on only when the wind blows. So far so good, if I can make another 24 hours with out an issue I will be a happy camper.
