2007 Lake Siskiyou "See & Do" in the Area

Things to See and Do in the Shasta Area

As with each Lake Siskiyou rally, members are encouraged to go at their own pace or organize an activity with other MOC campers. Whether your interest lies in fishing, golfing, hiking, biking, mountaineering, rafting or relaxing with a good book, we hope that you will have enjoyed your trip to the Mt. Shasta area.

Below is just a sampling of area information
that will be included in the 2007 Lake Siskiyou Rally Book:

Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce - Log-in to the Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce website and enjoy the Visitor’s Guide in interactive Flash format. It’s a most informative online booklet of the Mt. Shasta area full of anything and everything in the Mt. Shasta Region. Color pictures, places to shop, stay and eat. See the Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce website and click on the Visitor’s Guide Interactive Format link. http://www.mtshastachamber.com

The Mt. Shasta City Park is the site for the headwaters of California's Sacramento River. Waters from this spring gush from a mossy rock face and is pure and safe to drink right out of the spring. The area around the headwaters spring retains an almost cathedral-like peace. Walk along the creek and follow footpaths that meander across small bridges through hedges of horsetail fern and fragrant willow. Picnic tables, barbecues, play fields, playgrounds, gazebo and public rest rooms, all available for free. From Lake Street drive north on N. Mt. Shasta Blvd. to Nixon Rd. Cross the railroad tracks and turn right into the Mt. Shasta City Park.

Visit the Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery - It’s the oldest operating hatchery west of the Mississippi. Open ponds hold rainbow and brown trout raised to stock mountain fishing streams, rivers and lakes. Visitors can feed trout from the handy fish food dispensers. The grounds are open year round 8am – 5pm and provide ample parking, restrooms and a shady picnic area with a view of Mt. Shasta. Also on the grounds of the Hatchery is the Sisson Museum which offers a permanent exhibit about the history of climbing Mt. Shasta, including mountaineering photographs dating back to the middle of the 19th Century. The gift shop contains books, posters, jewelry, and much more. 1 North Old Stage Rd., Mt. Shasta, CA 96067 (530) 926-2215.

Music & Wine Faire – May 26th & 27th.
On Main Street in McCloud. Mushroom Vendors, Wine Tasting, Mushroom Excursion Train, Dinner Train W/Special Mushroom Delicacies, Cooking Demonstrations, Musical Entertainment & Live Band & BBQ. www.mccloudchamber.com (530)-964-2341

City of Dunsmuir Garden Club Flower Show - Free for entry and participants. Garden Tour Maps are available for purchase at the show for $10.00. For more information contact Dunsmuir Garden Club, 530-235-4819.

The Shasta Dinner / Excursion Train - The McCloud Railway operates a delightful open-air excursion train and also an elegant dinner train departing from the historic town of McCloud.
The trips feature either diesel locomotives or one of their historic steam locomotives. Dinner Train available on Fridays & Saturdays in May. Day excursions operate June through September. Group rates available. 328 Main Street, McCloud, California 96057 1-(800)-733-2141; (530)-964-2142 http://www.shastasunset.com

Lake Shasta Caverns – The tour begins with a 15 minute cruise on a 65 foot catamaran across Lake Shasta. The second part of the tour is aboard a custom bus up a mountainside as you ride to the final destination of the caverns entrance. Located 42 miles south of Mount Shasta City off of Interstate 5 at exit #695, Shasta Caverns Rd. Call for reservations.
Prices for Winter/Spring 2007 were: 12 and Up $20; Boat & Bus Tour Only $12;

Margee, don't you ever rest? Oh my gosh! I really do wish we were able to go and see you all again. Besides the fact that Mel can't get the extra time off, I think I'm going to need time to recover from the spring rally. I'm not sure how Mary Kay and Dennis are going to make it, it's been a busy month. Make sure they get to rest a little bit okay. You all have a great time. and...... don't work so hard! Take Care
