Al and Carol,

You have posted this for many others that have lost 4 legged loved ones. So I am posting your Rainbow Bridge post for you. All with pets know the emptiness you feel.

  • Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

    Author unknown...

It’s very difficult when you loose such a special pet.

It's never easy loosing someone that was as close to you as Ms.Tilly! We know what you and Al are going through since we had to put Bear down about a month or so ago! When you come home, they are always there to greet you and when you feel down they have a tendency to cheer you up and never want anything but a good brushing every so often and some kind and friendly words. Miss Tilly will always be with you even though she is gone! She will be in your thoughts and in your heart.

Thank you all, our good friends here at the MOC. Your support and understanding means so much. Thank you John for the Rainbow Bridge, that was very sweet of you to post it.

My friend and Tilly's breeder, Karen, sent this to me privately, and of course, it made me cry, but, it also helped me through the night:

Eugene O'Neill"

"...I ask my Mistress to remember me, always, but not to grieve for me too
long. In my life I have tried to be a comfort to her in time of sorrow and
an added joy in her life's happiness. It is painful for me to think that
even in death I shall cause her pain. Let her remember that, while no dog
ever had a happier life, I have now grown ill and pained. I should not want
my pride to sink to bewildered humiliation. It is time for me to say
'Good-bye.' It will be a sorrow to leave her, but not a sorrow to die. Dogs
do not fear death, as men do. We accept it as a part of life, not as
something alien and terrible that destroys life. What will become of me
after death? I would like to believe I will be in a place where one is
always young. Where I will someday be joined by companions I've known in
life. Where I will romp in lovely fields with those who have gone before me.
Where every hour is mealtime. Where in long evenings there are fireplaces
with logs forever burning and one curls oneself up and remembers the brave
old days on earth and the love of one's Mistress. This is much to expect,
but peace, at least, is certain...and a long rest for these weakened
limbs...and eternal sleep which is, perhaps, the best.....

'....no matter how deep my sleep, I shall hear you, and not all the power of
death can keep me from wagging a grateful tail.'

We know of your sorrow as we lost our beloved Beagle last September, we still think of her often as you will also.

I remember Bill and Laurie's beautiful beagle girl and my heart still hurts for them. Carol, I wish I could say it gets easier but we both know it doesn't. So, rejoice for the time you had with her and love your other furry kids just a bit more because they will miss her too. This is where the phrase "it is better to loved and loss than to never have loved at all". We have them for such a short time but the love they give fills all the days of our lives. Take care...Joanie

Carol and Al -
We were traveling and didn't find out until later about Miss Tilly. Always hard to lose one of the family. You have our sympathy.

We're sorry to hear of your loss. It has been said that one's character can be measured by the love and compassion they have for their animal companions. Sounds like Miss Tilly had a great family and life. All pets should be so lucky.

Carol, we are so sorry for your loss of Miss Tilly. We've been without internet access for nearly 3 weeks and only learned of her passing today. Our hearts go out to you on this loss of a beloved family member.
