Carefree Toppers? I don't think so!
When we bought the new Montana, we had the dealers put Carefree Slide Toppers on it. Now I'm thinking it was a big mistake. Opened up the unit yesterday for it's spring bath, and three of the four slides had bird's nests in between the side of the slide and the roll up mechanism. Big nests too! It took me over an hour to get them cleaned out - and I'm sure the birds will retaliate in the way they normally do, all over my newly washed trailer.
If it wasn't for the holes drilled in to the trailer to mount these, I'd be taking them off. Carefree? Not when you have clean out bird's nests!
And while on the topic of washing, why is it the trailer starts out 38 feet long when I begin to wash it, and ends up about 200 feet long before I'm done? Like the fool I am, I washed the whole thing in one day (including the roof), and I'm paying dearly for it now.

Not having any experience with slide toppers other than ours. What's the difference with the Carefree ones, compared to just plain old regular, other than the birds nests?

This is the first RV I owned without slide toppers. I sure do miss the wind rattling them at 0230 and waking me from my evening nap!

Dick, there is a space between the end of the roller cover and the side of the trailer that birds can get into. Two of the nests I removed were the size of footballs (American, not European!).

Thanks Tom, I was trying to visualize it. Joyce loves birds so I won't mention it to her. I wonder if the birds would travel well with you
