No Brakes on one Wheel

I do that touch test also. In addition, my TPMS has temperature as well as pressure. Never had any indication of a problem. No excessive heat or anything. I feel like I probably would have heard it if I were near the wheel while moving but I can't run that fast.

True that. Excessive heat can be bearings, tire problems, a dragging shoe etc. A cold wheel would be the one(s) not working.

Don't be fooled by a wheel warmed up by hot exhaust though. I've found that the left front wheel of our towed runs 20-30F hotter that the other tires because that's where the DP exhaust is. Especially after a long grade.

On really hot days, I've seen as much as 10 degrees difference from the sunny side to the shaded side, too. The temperature is mostly subjective, but I tend to watch for an abnormal difference between wheels/tires more than a specific temp. I think the TPMS has a default temperature set for an alert, I just don't remember what it is. IIRC it's pretty high though.

I have an infrared temperature gun. Once in a while after getting off a freeway I check all four wheels. I would hope that if all four didn't read approximately the same temperature it would reveal a problem. A high or low reading could be trouble.

I bought one of those IR temperature guns to check out the AC we've been having problems with. I haven't thought of using it on the wheels, that's a good idea. I do have temp readings with the TPMS sensors. It's pretty common to see a 10-15 degree difference between the sunny and shaded side of the rig though. I'm not really sure at what temperature I should be concerned. Obviously, getting over 145 or more, but what about 110 or 120?

My TPMS has temps as well. I don't worry too much about tire temps too much as long as they are fairly even. The monitor has default warnings about over temp. I use the gun on the brakes/bearings using the same approach of being all similar temps. I don't know what specific temps should be. I would be in trouble if they all went bad at once!

This is EXACTLY how mine looked. I kept getting a warning on my truck display about trailer wiring. The metal clips that hold the wires in place fall off. This allows the wires to hit the drum causing damage. The magnet actually rubs the drum by design. That's how it moves and expands the brakes. The good news is that Dexter has a 5 year warranty on the axles and brakes. I called them and they immediately sent me 4 new brake assemblies for FREE. I installed them myself. The replacements are the same as the original ones. I expect the clips to fall off of these also.
