Debris on slideouts
Greetings,
My new Montana High Country is the first RV I've owned with slide outs. This past weekend, we got a lot of needles falling from the trees we camped under. I noticed that when I pulled the slides in, a lot of the needles remained on top of the slides and hitched a ride indoors. A couple of questions:
How do you clean the debris off your slides before you pull them in? I'm thinking of getting a cheap electric blower but am open to suggestions.
Are installing awnings over the slides worth it?
Thanks for you thoughts.

Some people use a battery powered blower or you can get on roof and sweep it off with a broom. I have slide topper on all mine and for me I wouldn’t be without them, they keep all debris off of mine. I think toppers are well worth the money. I won’t buy another trailer without them.

I put slide toppers on right after we got it home! would not be with out them. Beats having to go up blow them off all the time helps to keep water out also.

Slide toppers are great as long as your not in the Florida or Arizona sun, then they only last a few years along with the awning. 5 years on our unit and 2 awnings so far.

On our previous travel trailer, we had two slide outs and no toppers. I was stuck climbing a ladder and sweeping them off after every stay. When we bought our Montana 5er with three slide outs, I gladly invested in the slide toppers. No regrets whatsoever!!!

We have them, like them compared to climbing a ladder to clean the slides. The downside is that in wind they rattle like crazy and the hot AZ,FL and south Texas sun will deteriorate them faster. Still prefer them over the alternative.

Thanks for the input. Looks like the slide toppers may be the way to go. How are they with the rain?

They will puddle water in heavy rain. I simply use a broom or my telescopic wash brush to pull gently on an open end to allow the water run out the end. One more to do item.

Get swim noodles to put under them - helps keep water off and limits wind rattle - just don't forget to remove b4 closing …

Two Montana both ordered with slide toppers. What PNW Fireguy says about the SW and Florida sun is true. The sun burns off the paint on vehicles and Rvs . We are replacing our main awning that disintegrated . We have wintered in the SW and Florida for years.

First 5er had three slides w/o toppers. We winter in a beautiful pine grove and by spring we had so much pine cones and needles I nearly needed a shovel to clean them off. Now our Montana with six slides and toppers is a breeze. Just pull in the slides and all debris falls off and we have not had any problems with rain pooling up. I will never be without them.
