backup lights

Recently visited the RV/camping show in PA. One of the 5th wheel manufacturers had provided backup lights on the trailer. I thought that was a good idea for night arrivals, and a backin site.

Ever try to back up in the dark??? The trucks back up lights reflecting off the white Montana blind you completely. No telling where the rear end of the 5er is. For back up lights to really be effective you need a disable switch on the truck... or a street light near by.

My 97 Jayco had backup lights. I'm not sure they did me much good from that far away. I try to avoid doing too much backing up in the dark, too many things hiding there waiting to jump out and attack the trailer.

Spot lights might be a better idea for the rear of the Montana. They would really light up the area you are backing into.

Sounds like a good idea to me. You don't always need 4/4 drive, however there are times when it comes in handy. I think backup lights on a Montana would also come in handy. Keep us posted. Happyrving....

Flood lights are the answer but not on the back of the trailer. Mount them on the side pointing toward the rear. Mount them just behind the front basement doors. This will not only light up the back but just as important the side of the rig. You will find at lot of truckers mount flood lights on their tractors for the same purpose.
BUT use them sparingly. If you really want to PO your new neighbor shine a bright light in his window while he is trying to sleep.

Figure that the bright lights will just add insult to injury--after youv'e wakened them with the noise of that big diesel engine backing and forthing as you try to manouever the 5'er in, the lights will be the last straw. LOL--we've all been on either end of this sticky situation. The only real solution is to never arrive after dark. Or else have the non-driver back there with a walky talky and a large flashlight--and a pair of cold beers waiting in the frig.
