Vinyl Stripping Removal

I have a section of vinyl stripping I need to remove do to deterioration on the front DS between my Awning and Cap. If I use a heat gun and a plastic putty knife will this do the job. Who else has removed vinyl stripping ?

Thanks

If you're talking about removing the vinyl decals, yes ... been there, done that, have the T-shirt. Hair dryers don't work very well, but heat guns do. You have to get a feel for how much heat to put on. Too much heat just causes the decals to pull apart, too little heat causes them to flake. Plastic putty knife does help. Mineral spirits will help take off the residual adhesive. You may end up with a ghost of the decal on your siding.

I removed all decals on the front and rear of mine. First I used a heat gun on low setting and plastic scraper. Worked well on the rear. Get a corner or end started and then slowly peel them off.

Then on the front it worked well on the big MONTANA letters. But the mountains and swooshes were more cracked and brittle. No matter what I tried they came off in very small pieces. Bought a 3M Eraser wheel and used a heavy duty geared drill motor and they came off pretty easy. Added benefit is that as the decal came off in little pieces a lot of adhesive came off with them. Rest of adhesive came off using 3M Adhesive Remover.
