Cabinet latch problem

We have been in our 3400RL for 9 months. Many of the cabinets that we open and close frequently (e.g., galley) have gotten "loose" - we have to "squeeze" the latch together with our fingers to get the cabinet door to close and stay close. Do we need to "tighten" or "adjust" something? Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks.

Drjjj, I'm not sure what is causing that problem but suspect the latches are misaligned. The male side should be exactly centered between the two spring loaded halves of the female side. That way you get both springs holding the latch closed, which also makes it more difficult for them to come open on the road (not that they won't anyhow if something is pushing the doors open). Are the screws loose or just the jaws of the latches?

With our latches properly aligned those oem latches have worked very well on all three of our Montanas. No need to replace them unless one goes bad. We do strap some doors closed, for either of two reasons: 1) heavy items may fall against the door and force it open or 2) the doors are not visible behind a slide when on the road and we don't want to risk damaging slide or door should the door open.

We do keep our doors velcroed shut when traveling. Just had the left door under the TV(3400) we do not have the fireplace.. fall off yesterday. The top hinge ripped out of the wood and the bottom followed.Did the tooth pick trick and all is well. Will suggest that Montana provide a box of tooth picks with each camper delivered. This is only the 4th door that has fell off in our one year of ownership... not to bad.. Have not had a problerm with the OEM latches..check the doors for proper alignmnet and loose hinges.

Ever consider the same child proof cabinet latches? This link has some suggestions.

We added another set of latches to most of the cupboards. Now -- it's hinges.

We replaced several latches with a better latch acquired from our dealer (in fact, dealer replaced them at no charge). I think they called them "bulldog" latches. I would gladly have paid $10 more for my Montana if they had put them on at the factory LOL.

We had a hinge pull off the cabinet on our first outing. Looks like the factory striped some the wood when overtightening that very small screw. Need to find a supply of colored screws and the next size larger, at least.

We are doing the velcro thing as well until I have time to study it more.

We have ha problems with the screws pulling out, too. I think some of those "old world craftsmen" have their screwguns set too tight. We replaced them with a larger size, and use the double sided velcro, too, when travelling. No more problems.
