Dad passed away 7 March 09
Dad passed away this evening, 7 March 2009.
I feel I lost Dad when I was forced, by his dementia, to put him in the nursing home in August. Dad’s time in the nursing home was not easy for him, Mom, Glenda (my sister) or me. He did not understand why he was there. Our mother is doing well and relieved that Dad is now at peace. They were married for 66 years and as she says, "We had a great life together." He did not fight the nurses up until this last week. Dad is now free to go fishing and hunting as he loved.
So, it is a time to remember the good times and move forward.

Such a mixture of pain and relief when we lose someone under those conditions. Glad your mom is coping. 66 years of marriage is a great record. Your family has our empathy. We have been there.

John, I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your Dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We know exactly your thoughts about the nursing home move as both Vicki and I went through putting our Mothers in nursing homes. It took awhile for us to understand the move was for their better good so they could get the care we could not provide at home. They don't understand but it had to be done. Who is really to say they would have lasted longer if not put in a home? John, take the time to grieve and allow yourself to realize you did your best and that is all one can ask.
