I would recommend Manatee Hammock State Park at Titusville. Close to Space Center. I have heard good reports on this state park. You can check out the comments at campgroundreviews.com. I have not stayed there ....yet. But it is on my list of parks to visit.

E-mail on the way to you. Do a quick Forum search under "Titusville" There are several similar questions / posts over the past few months.

Where's Jeff when you need him? Jeff Heiser lives in the area and he would be a great one to answer this question. He could even give you the directions to WDW from there.
Anyway my choice would be Jetty Park at Port Canaveral
Haven't camped there as yet but we did a drive thru and we will return.

I posted the below information last February. I hope it helps.
Okay here you go:
Jetty Park (best spot for viewing however fills up quick)
Manatee Hammock (another good place to view from)
Moss Park (in Orlando about 43 miles from the cape)
Tingly's Campground (really run down only recommended in pinch for a night)
Sabastian State Park ( about an hour 15 to cape)
Great Outdoors (Titusville - not sure of all the accomidations)
Tomoka River State Park (Ormand Beach 76 miles)
KOA New Symarna Beach (50 miles)
There are also several Wal Marts. The one in Merritt Island does not allow overnight parking.
If you need more or want more information let me know. Whatever you decide make reservations (where allowed) as early as possible. They fill up fast prior to a launch.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We will be staying at Jetty Park. Unfortunately, we will miss the launch-- unless it is delayed for a couple of days. We thought about leaving early, but looks like "Dennis the Hurricane" might get in the way.
