Improved overhead light for reading

The light over our recliners is a 110 volt fixture. We had a 60-watt incandescent light bulb installed and it just wasn't bright enough for reading. So Dick added a socket to the overhead light and inserted two Compact Flourescent Lihtbulbs (CFL's) rated at 100W each but using 23 watts each. We chose the daylight bright. Now with the 2 sockets and CFL's we have the equivalent of 200 watts, but are drawing less than the original one socket with the 60 watt bulb. Bought second socket for $2.50 at Lowes.

Did you have to modify the shade in any way?

Nicely done! We, too, like the CFL bulbs.

Did anyone notice that GE made their last incandescent bulb, this month? No more old bulbs.

No, it's one of the glass (upside down dome) fixtures and the two sockets fit just fine. We chose small CFL's that were the same size as incandescent bulbs.

Yes, it made me feel somewhat nostalgic!
