A LOVE letter from insurance company..

Hey All,

Went to the mail box today and found a letter from my insurance company (State Farm) and I found out the they will not cover our Montana because we live in it full time. I am sure that I told them this when I went to pay the insurance bill after we bought the trailer.

Well I need to know of a insurance company that will cover us as full timer's. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

I believe Good Sam has full time insurance. Not sure about others but I believe there are several. Folks that have it will be able to chime in and offer more info I'm sure.

Check with the Miller Insurance Agency - others have mentioned they got a good deal there

So, change insurance companies, but never mention you are "full timing." If asked, just say you use it year round and travel a lot.

As far as theft and vandalism, your camper is safer with you living in it that stowed away at any storage facility.

It's when you drop S&B Insurance and change mailing address. It's the exposure level for ins company for fulltime

Yeah, that’s what you want to do...lie to an insurance company. Like they don’t already look for any minuscule excuse to reject your claim! You’ll pay all those premiums for years, and then when you need it they’ll say, sorry you lied to us, but thanks for giving us your money anyway. You will be their favorite type of customer!

Well that was rather harsh.

How about just don't volunteer any information to the insurance company. You know act like a police officer just stopped you.

Most never ask if you are full time or not.

I'm not so sure that is correct. I've never applied for an RV policy that they didn't ask me "how much" I used it and maybe what time periods (Good Sam). In effect that question asks if you are full time.

Trying to misrepresent your vehicle, circumstances etc. can have dire effects on an insurance claim. My motto? Shoot straight and pay the consequences.

We have used Millerrvinsurance.com for the last ten years of full timing. You actually need full time insurance since it includes the type of liability coverage you usually have with a stick house. Full time insurance is more expensive for that reason.

OK Guys, First off i am not going to lie to anyone. State farm doesn't want to cover me they don't have to. I all ready called Progressive. They gave me a quote for the Montana plus all my vehicle's and we are set up with them and they are saving us a lot of money on the auto side. Thank you for all your help. It is done!

East Texas had a bad tornado April 22 - State Farm, hands down, has been the worst company for the policy holders to deal with. Drive thru the 12 neighborhoods hit and you'll see 3-4 signs with State Farm and UGLY Face painted on it. Some of the relief works that support victims of Hurricane Harvey were the same way. For your information - might be good to be free of them

Yep I heard that! I have never been a big fan of State farm and I will be glad to be rid of them. They played a few games with us to and some rain damage that we had here 2 years ago. We had trees come down in our yard. They didn't hit the cars or the house. The trees did take out a fence and took out our electrical and cable wire's. Because there was no house damage or car's they didn't want to cover anything. I should have left them at that time. But live and learn I guess.

IMO you made a wise choice. Had all our stuff insured with them including multiple homes. The continually kept adding riders, exclusions plus raising the rates...non stop. It was ridiculous. I had used them for many years. Finally filed a claim and they balked which really aggravated me. My friend was the agent and it was settled but if it hadn't been for that I would have been up a creek. Moved to either Progressive or Geico, don't remember, but cut my premiums almost in half and they were SO much better....and I didn't even have an agent.

Was very happy with GEICO policy for full timers for over 9 years covering 3 different Montanas.

I have State Farm on mine, my house, and all my vehicles, but had Progressive on my boat. They are a good company. Interesting about the non coverage for living in your RV full time. Kind of weird why State Farm doesn't cover that. Glad this topic was brought up for other full time RV'rs, who might now want to check with their company to make sure they are covered.
