Another China Bomb
On Thursday, I was traveling from Keough Hot Springs, Bishop, CA to Edwards AFB. The right-front tire on our 3075 went High-Order. Lost the plastic fenders and had some sheet metal damage. The difference is that these were Commodore Tires from Big O. and less than 1 year old. I am anal about making sure the pressures are correct on cool tires so this was not due to under/over-inflation. I did make the mistake of not knowing that Commodore tires are also made in China. An expensive lesson.

Sorry to hear of your incident. The truth in the tire market is that you get what you pay for. Just had a total suspension failure on one wheel and towed (without realizing it) 90 miles with all the weight on one tire. Still have 30 miles to go to get the suspension fixed and hopefully I can get that much more out of that poor tire. Am I glad I spent the money on G614's. You bet!

Also sorry to hear of your episode with China Bombs. Welcome to our world of RV'ing. Now for the fix steps. Order the plastic fender which will come plus shipping. Remove the metal fender and take it to a body fender shop so they can pound and paint if not to dameaged. Did you find the black splash guard in front of the wheel?? Remove the rubber cover of the screws holding the metal trim. Now remove the staples and your set to go. Hope this helps you. Hope it didn't tear up the under carriage or damage you wheel. Good luck on the rest of your trip. Added note, check your spare tire, I found my spare to be out of round which also had to be replaced. Happ trails.

The damage was slight, other than loss of the fenders. The black splash guard also went away. The tread partially unwrapped from the tire carcass and did some beating before we were able to get stopped. I think we we be able to make it almost like new.
Now if only the decals were just as easy to fix. We have been traveling in Montanas since '03, seen 35 of the lower 48, and have been extremely fortunate in our Montana experiences. Just a "bump in the road".

Keystone has found a different "China Bomb" for the Alpines. Had an Alpine next to me before the Rally with a good deal of trim missing. I had never heard of the type of tire he had on, but it was original he said.

Recommend that poor tire be inspected carefully as it will have been brutally stressed and a likely replacement candidate.

Brad, before you do any of the above, recommend you check with Big O. Dont know about them, but Goodyear has paid for repair damage to trailers caused by Marathon failures, for some. Maybe Big O or the tire manufacturer will do the same for you. Worst they can do is refuse.

Just remembered. Contact the tire distributer and talk to customer service. They will take your case of defective tires and possibly give a refund adjustment. Adjustments are only good up to 4 years. I did that with two bombs, with the others being past time line. Good luck and Happy Trails.
