Mt. Shasta for the 4th

Well, we're the lucky ones to be up North for the 4th.
Hope any other MOC's up that way can get together, planning on being on the road for a couple of weeks.
We're arriving on the 30th and staying at the JGW Park.
Hope to hear any from any that maybe in the area during that time.
We're also hoping to meet up with Don and Claudia while we're up there.

If you like fishing then you're gonna love the JGW park. It is right on the Sacramento River. Very nice park. But you're still a long way from Mt. Shasta. Also you're going to be very warm at that time of year. For cooler weather you'd do much better on up the hill at Shasta. But it's all good! Enjoy.

Dennis is correct. Redding will be as hot or hotter than Sacramento. But JCW is a great spot. Try to get a river view spot. We've stayed there several times in the past few years and always enjoyed it. While you're in Redding, head east to Mt. Lassen. It's also an area worth exploring, if the snow in the park has melted... Bumpass Hell is an amazing area of bubbling mud holes and steaming sulfur. It's a good hike from the park road.

You'll still be about an hour and a half south of Mt. Shasta while in Redding, so day trips are possible, but camping is plentiful in the Mt. Shasta area (although perhaps all booked for the weekend of July 4). Have a great trip.

If you've got a couple of weeks, you could easily take in the coast as well. At Highway 20 (Williams), head west from Interstate 5. Four hours later, you'll be in Fort Bragg, with several RV parks (Pomo is nice). From there you can head south to Bodega Bay (see my post in your other thread), and connect with 101 for the trip south.
