Sealand Toilet
We where having trouble with our toilet. t wasn't holding water some of the time and we where over our 1yr. warranty so I called Sealand and was told it was still under warranty for 2 more years, parts and labour this year and parts only next year. I took it to the dealer and they repaired it and it seems to work better than it did when new so I guess it never did worked right from new. The water level was always low and the peddle never seemed to return properly.

That's a good news story! Yea!!! Have same toilet, I think. Get debris in the inlet/flush mechanism now and then which decreases flush flow. Easy fix to pull the valve mechanism and clean, but a pain. Congrats on your fix!

We have the same toilet and had the same trouble with the bowl not holding water. We have to keep cleaning the seal and most of the time that takes care of it. But on our last use, the trap door is stuck shut...won't open to flush. (thank goodness it was just water in the bowl when this happened!) Still under warranty, so we've taken it in to the dealer, but I'm not happy with the problems we've had with the Sealand Toilet...when comparing it to other brands in our previous fifth wheels.

The tech said the ball valve system was faulty from the start. Since he installed the new parts it works great.

Don't forget to let the valve slam shut when you push down on the pedal - let it go with a snap.
I had problems with my Sealand 210 and upgraded to the 510 with hose. Really liked it. 210 was under warranty so I just paid the difference in price of about $125. It was worth it for the spray hose.
(Now don't tell me I could have dragged the garden hose in!!!!)

The seal in the Sealand toilet is to 'fragile' to some cleaners. Some of the toilet bowl cleaners on the market will damage the seal. Sealand does make a cleaner that will not harm the seal. Kerry

We had that problem early on and the mfr told me a few springpacks for the pedal were defective. They sent a new springpack and I replaced it. That seemed to fix it.
We sometimes get tissue or other debris that keeps the valve from closing properly and lets the water leak out. When we notice it is dry, we depress the pedal and let it slap back three times. That seems to fix it until the next time. So far.

We have recently returned to our rig after a month over Christmas time. I noticed that the valve seal wasn't holding water in the bowl as it did when new. The rig is only 8 months old. We have tried the "tongue depresser" supplied with the paperwork, and it doesn't seem to cure the leak. I've just tried the "snap" test to see what happens and don't know if this will indeed fix the problem. Does anyone feel that this is a defect in the seal around the flush ball and maybe I should contact the local dealer (not the selling dealer) to see if they will honor the warranty?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

I am confident SeaLand will take care of the issue if you call them direct, as they have sent out free parts for several others, However from prior discussion you have had I'm sure you would prefer to take it back to the Dealer.

Common problem. Had the same problem with ours. Called Sealand. Lady told me how to take it apart, clean the seal, and lube it (with food grade oil such as PAM). Said if that did not fix it, she would send me a new seal. Cleaned and lubed as she instructed and no further problem. Not difficult to do, but a pain none the less.

Don,
Here is an 800 number for them shown as a "hotline" number
1-800-321-9886
Thanks for sharing your note about the number 40. LOL.
Be sure to post any info you might receive from their service rep. here so that the rest of the Sealand toilet owners might know of your success.

Don't forget - Glenn has put together and maintains a comprehensive list of all the manufacturers that build stuff for our units:
http://www.montanaowners.com/components.html
It's under OEM Components on the home page.

Gang,
I just bit the bullet and "operated" on my sealand toilet. Fairly easy to work on, but still a pain. The seat and base are held together with a hose clamp. If you need instructions for the repair, PM me and I'll pass it along. I found a little hardened grime on the ball and no damage to the seal. I scrubbed the ball with the "tongue depresser" that was included with the literature and a little Soft Soap, and then rinsed with a little clear water. I sprayed the seal and ball with Pam and reassembled. The water now stays in the bowl. Yippee!!!!!

I will try that... I have called the Ph # and am waiting for a reply..as well as an email and still waiting.. I was referred to a RV repair tech that just happens to be in the next RV park to us and is working out of there..(he comes from the East coast) and carries on business there in the summer months...he will do it for me if I need help...

As Steve mentioned, it is relatively easy. There are different models, but on mine, the plastic cover around the bottom just snaps off. Then I removed the metal band holding the top to the bottom, and disconnected the water hose to the top section. Then the top could be lifted free of the bottom. After cleaning it up and lubing the seal, be sure when you are putting the top back on, to center the hole in the top section carefully on the bottom section and seal when you begin clamping it back down. Mine had gotten slightly off center and I think that may have had a little to do with it not holding water properly.
There was really no odor and no "gross factor" as you might expect.

I also had trouble with the toilet and called Sealand. They sent me new seals and they were not hard to replace. When you disconnect the water line don't forget to turn the water off first. Things happen. Also when you flush let the pedal snap back up.
