2008 3400RL 15500#GVW?

After deciding a 3295 is too heavy for my 3500 SRW, I started looking at the 3400RLs. If I read these brochures right the 2007 3400RL have a GVW of 14000#. In an ad for 2008 3400RLs they listed the GVW as 15500#. Are they that much heavier than 2007 or does it have to do with the 7000# axles for 2008. I have heard some of you talk about 6000# axles on some and then 7000# axles on others. Is the trailer actualy heavier in some way?

Hey bigred!

Actually they started changing the axles in December 2006. Our 3400RL manufactured January 2007 has a GVWR of 15,500 lbs. There is no change to the dry weight of the rig - just change to the carrying capacity as a result of the new 7,000 lb axles. The axles raised the gross weight rating.

I weighed our unit right off the lot and it came in at 11,760 lbs. Fully loaded we are at 13,900 lbs.

Thank you Brad,
I was hoping they weren't making them heavier. If I travel light, I think that I could be within all my weights. Really have the bug for a new trailer after hearing all the members talk of their 3400RLs. The manufactures list price vary a lot here in Oregon;$60,878 to $68,000+ for the closest dealer in Eugene.

BigRed715 -

The list price will vary quite a bit, but be aware you will find a significant discount off of that list. We are anticipating that a new one will run us in the $40's. We will probably be trading up in the November - January timeframe. The new ones seem to have a lot of improvements over our 2005, which we love.

I believe List Price or MSRP should be consistent across the country, as it is dictated by the Factory. The actual sale price can vary significantly across the board, as those are determined by the Dealer. And of course, the price you pay can also vary given your skill of negotiation and attitude of the Dealer.

Be careful of those units that are priced significantly lower at one Dealer as compared to the others. We have a Dealer here that is always $10K or so lower for the same model, but when you really look at the list, he deletes a lot of the common equipment when her orders his inventory units to make them seem cheaper. Things like generator prep, AC prop, fans, tables, even alloy wheels.

I have been on line with a local dealer and his MSRP for a 2008 3400RL
is $68,675. A dealer 2hrs north up in Portland area is $61,292 and this is a three business setup , so he probably buys more trailers. That is still a big difference in MSRP. What percentage of discount can you expect to get dealing with no trade.

My dealer gave me a flyer from the factory with the MSRP for each model and each accessory.

30 TO 36 PERCENT some have said...depends on how hungry the dealer is.....When you really get serious, be prepared to drive a lot of miles to get the best deal...... There are several around the midwest that I know, they have drived close to 1000 mile's away from home to get 7 or 8 thousand difference. I know I would drive a day to save that kind of money. Good Hunting and safe travels John

If you're interested in driving to Seattle area or at least getting quotes here, I think you'd pay mid to upper $40,000's depending on the options. We recently ordered the Big Sky 360 and didn't pay even close to what you're being quoted. If you're interested in our pricing send me a pm. We also used Costco and the dealer they referred us too is the one we bought from. We had quotes that varied by $17,000 dollars if you can believe that

You could call Lakeshore RV and talk to BOB at 517-204-6546 or 1-231-788-2040 and get a quote on the one they have in stock as well as a complete list of all installed options. They make pretty good deals on units they have on the lot. Special orders are reportedly not discounted as much but our 3000RK was loaded and ran us mid 30's......If you end up liking what you hear let him know you were refered by us - I think we each get a $50 incentive you and us. Don't remember for sure though.....
