Door hard to open & close

The main door on our new to us rv is the one that "stays where u put it". I thought this would be a great thing but it is way too hard to open & close. I looked for an adjustment but didnt see any. Sprayed the hinges with wd40 & this helped somewhat but still tight. Anyone changed hinges and gone back to a regular clip back type door on one of these. Any other help or ideas would be appreciated also. Thanks, Bill & Deb

We just purchased a 3761FL almost two weeks ago and the latch when opening the door is very difficult to open. Any help is appreciated.

I actually worked some wheel bearing grease into the hinge on mine. It was kind of messy doing it, and it took some time. But it loosened it up, and it seems to have stayed lubricated. (Its been a year now, and it is still working good) After I did that, i installed one of those plastic door tie backs and it is working just like the old ones. Every once in a while I will put a dab on my finger and run it up and down the hinge joints, then wipe it off. Works for me! I don't regret doing this at all.

Yes, I disliked immediately and replaced with standard hinges.

Use a silicon spray instead of WD-40 which is actually a rust inhibitor instead of lubricant. Works and lasts much better at least for me.

After a couple years our door just naturally loosened up. It still keeps from slamming shut if the wind catches it but it MUCH easier to operate now than it was when new. We don't mind it at all now.

I have two of those doors on my 2016 3711FL, and they've worked well since day one. I've never had to lube mine, but I'd recommend something with PTFE in it, not WD40.

We had the same problem on our new 294RL. The door was hard to close, and door handle was hard to latch. I ended up modifying my door strike because it was too tight on the door latch and deadbolt. Part of the problem was also the Morryde strut assist stair flanges did not close tightly against the door jam. I purchased a latch assy for the stairs from Morryde, and this has helped greatly.

It's all about sloppy installation. I have two doors on my 2016 3711FL. I swore to myself I would never again have an RV door that did not operate correctly, so on delivery I opened and closed those doors repeatedly to ensure they were right; they were and have been since. If your door strikes don't match up, or the door drags on one or more corners, it will never be right, IMHO, until the entire door and frame is reset in its rough opening. It might even need a complete replacement.

I discovered that if the steps were not level then the assembly did not allow the door to operate correctly. If I level the steps the door closes easily.

As to the stay open hinges, I like them, until they don't, like on a windy day. I have purchased a door latch to hold the door open, although I have not installed it yet.

Thanks for all the good input. Gonna try the silicone spray & a magnetic holdback latch & see how it works.
