Roof Caulking

We were told at last year's rally that Alpha Systems manufactured the roof membrane on newer models. It is a TPO membrane. In their Cleaning and Maintenance sheet, they state "use only Alpha Brand sealants". Is this just a sales ploy or is there special additives in their sealants that the other brands don't have? What have you guys been using to seal your roofs?

Looking at the Dicor website their sealant is compatible with EPDM and TPO membranes. Alpha Systems is what Keystone uses in the manufacturing process and is priced competitively with Dicor.

From Alpha's Web site - click here

CLEANING AND MAINTAINING YOUR ALPHA SYSTEMS ROOF MEMBRANE

Proper care and maintenance of the Alpha Systems roof membrane is critical to sustain years of trouble-free performance. Normal maintenance is simple, easy and requires no special materials.

Periodic cleaning (three to four times per year) is the primary maintenance required. Alpha Systems recommends using a non-abrasive household cleaner, such as dish soap, and a mediumbristled scrub brush. Do not use any harsh or highly abrasive products during routine cleaning. When finished cleaning, remember to thoroughly rinse the roof and sidewalls in order to remove any soap residue and to prevent streaking.

CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHEN WORKING ON TOP OF YOUR UNIT! THE ROOF MAY BECOME SLIPPERY WHEN WET. DO NOT USE ACETONE, OR ANY OTHER PRODUCTS CONTAINING PETROLEUM DISTILLATES, ON THE ALPHA SYSTEMS ROOF MEMBRANE. USE OF THESE PRODUCTS WILL DAMAGE THE MEMBRANE.

Periodic inspection of the roof, during cleaning, is highly recommended. Check the membrane for signs of damage. If damage does occur, the membrane can most often be patched (refer to the Care and Repair Instructions).

The Alpha roof membrane is quite inert and will resist weathering well; nor does it require the periodic application of products to protect it from ultra-violet light or ozone. In fact, these products can often cause damage to the roof membrane.

While inspecting the roof during cleaning, it is also important to check the lap sealant used in all termination areas. Inspect the existing sealant around all accessories and fasteners for signs of cracking or voids.

If additional sealant is needed, Alpha’s 1021 and/or 1010 sealant can be ordered nationwide at RV Dealers or online by visiting www.alphallc.us. Please note ONLY ALPHA BRAND SEALANTS CAN COME IN CONTACT WITH ALPHA ROOF MEMBRANE

I've never used anything but Alpha caulking on mine. I spent too much money on my camper to cut corners that will cost even more in the long run.

When attending the presentation by Alpha Systems st last falls rally the rep said Dicor was fine but they really would like to sell us their caulk.
Several of us said we had never seen it for sale.
Alpha was generous enough to supply several cases Free to anyone who wanted it.
Just another perk of attending the rally.

Dang, I must have left the presentation too early. I'm having trouble finding the correct color with out having to order several tubes. I'm planning on sealing with etrnabond tape but want to apply a layer of caulk at the edges.
