EZ Lub Hubs
I know the EZ lub hubs will make it easy to add grease. What I would like to know is when, what type and how much grease. I know that sometimes too much of a good thing can be bad.

I had them on my 2000 Montana and removed them because I had a tendency to over grease. Got grease on the drums and the brake linings. I only greased them once a year but used too much.

I have the "Red Eye" grease-able hubs on my boat trailer and they indicate when you should add grease to the hub. Once I filled the hubs I have not added any grease in two years and do not have any grease coming out of the inside seal. Reason the boat trailers are more critical than an RV is after trailering the boat to a ramp the hubs will be warm and dunking them in cold water it tends to create a vacuum and suck water into the hubs if they are not full.
I am of the opinion that grease-able hubs on an RV are not as important as on a boat trailer. While pulling the wheels on your RV to inspect the brakes is also a good time to inspect the wheel bearings and grease them accordingly and not take a chance for over fill with the grease zerks. Wheel bearing grease will not wear out, but will melt if overheated.

Im not an export, what I do is clean the hub and change grease each year then give the bearings new grease to work with a couple times between changes. Remove tire and cap then I rotate the hub to help the new grease flow into the hub. Dexter tells us to use Lithium Complex type of grease. This works for me?? See-Ya

What I have learned to use a high grade of grease and apply only two squeeses or shots with the grease gun per application about every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

Here is the link to Dexter's website:
http://www.dexteraxle.com/products___literature
The recommended grease and procedures are covered under the View Service Liturature / Hubs, Drums, & Bearings link for 600 - 8,000 lb axles.
Northstar's recommendation for frequency seems to work best for most people.

Charlie, I had those bearing buddies on my boat trailer, too. But what's on the Montana is different. Those on the boat trailer fill the cup full of grease to keep water from getting to the bearings. That grease does not go into the bearings. On the Montana, the grease goes into the bearings themselves and pushes out the old grease. In theory, at least.
DonPd, my dealer told me at delivery to put in two squirts of grease per year. No more, no less. When we started fulltiming I figured we'd need more so I did two squirts twice per year. When the dealer pulled the hubs to check the brakes he told me I'm putting in too much grease and reiterated two squirts once per year even though we're fulltiming. So that's what I do. I don't know if he's right but I think he is. I'm overdue for another couple of squirts of grease. Another thing to add to my to-do list.
