Impressive pre-camping tire check

The more I think about the justification for shelling out money for new tires on a new rig, the more I wonder about making the choice. Went to the rig to start the prep-work for the local camping trip tomorrow and one of the obvious things is to check the tires and the tire pressure. Not being the overly smart pre-thinker, I did not take the monitor screen for the TST system so had to do it the old way by taking off the tire monitors and put a Harbor Freight special purchase pressure guage on each one. After the second winter, I was pleasantly surprised when each G614RST read 90 psi on the gauge. A small satisfying victory in the tire war episode but a good one nonetheless. I really like these tires!

Bingo, I tried to baby the Marabombs for a year or two. Should have done like you did and get them off before delivery. I was very lucky to see the belts failing in my driveway. Don't second guess your decision for one second. And your rig is heavier than mine too. Smart move.

Bingo, Do you run your 614s at 90#? My weights are light enough to run at that weight or a bit higher and just looking for input. Weighing recently puts about 6K on each axle.

I have a 2010 3605sa Montana and have had 3 blowouts with the Marathons, one blowout causing damage. Can I put g614 tires on the rims I have now? Also, are you guys comfortable replacing tires with another Goodyear tire? I'm in negotiating mode with Goodyear after the last bomb went off and when the price is agreed on, I will get rid of the Marathons and would like your input on tire selection. Thanks, Tom.

Tim,
I inflate them cold to 95 psi and when running, per the TST monitor, they run at about 100-105 psi. 95 gets me to where I need to be according to my calculations and the Tire Inflation Guide shows this gives me 3400 per tire at 95 and 3550 at 100 psi. When I checked the tires it was a little below 50 degrees which will account for the pressure difference. The tires actually ranged from 90 - 92 psi.

madeforeachother,
Your rims should be the T06's (see the referenced link for a page that shows the rims) and should be stamped 110 psi or 3750 # on the rear of a spoke. If so you are good for the 614's. Here is Tredit's page that shows their rims and links to each rims specs:
Tredit Aluminum Rims
The main difference in the G614's is they are made in the good old USA versus the Marathons that are made in China. I feel the quality control at the American plants is reliable versus the Chinese ones.

Check your rims, on the back they should say 110#. Or you can email a picture of your rims to Tredit Tire and they can tell you. Only the early 2010 models (I believer those actually made in 2009) had the old low pressure wheels. I am very comfortable with my G614's. Goodyear is responsive to problems and these tires have a great reputation. You will occasionally find someone who had a problem with a 614, put that's true of everyones tires. The Marathons being our exception. If you go on other forums, you'll find lighter weight trailers have their own version of "the manufacturer got the cheapest tire that was rated" problem.

Check the inside of your wheels and they are stamped with the weight they can carry. If they are stamped 3750, you are good to go. You can also check the Tredit website for additional data. http://www.tredittire.com/Default.aspx

Our 2010 was MFR'd in Sept of 2009 and we have the 110 PSI/3750 Lb wheels which have been sporting the G614s for the past 20K miles

Thanks for the info guys! I'm having problems with my computer so when I pull up tredit all I can get is pictures of the rims they offer. I have the TO4 with 8 spokes. Will they accept the G614's?

I called tredit tire today and told them about the Goodyear Marathon tires they supply Keystone are defective and the Warranty Dept. could care less as all they said was " thats a shame ". I did get the info on the To4 rims with 8 spokes and they are rated 3750 lbs. So, I'm good for the G614's. Thanks for the links and I hope I have better luck with the G614's.

What a great bunch of members you all are. I've learned so much since joining after we bought our first Montana in February.

The 08 295RKS came with Marathons. Had acceptable success with them on a smaller SOB but was concerned with the heavier Mountaineer and was wondering what wheels this rv has. Could not stand it any longer, went out to check. Used a mirror and light to get into the area behind the spokes and saw that the 8 bolt 16" are rated for 3750 at 110 lbs. That's a relief because with what you've all shared I think I can upgrade to the G614's you've been raving about. Was hoping to get this summer out of the marathons made end of the year in 07 but.... Have not quite decided. Hate to damage the rv, did that on an overdue set of tires before I knew the dangers.

Thanks for all the information and all the good reads!

Put 105 lbs. in G614 on December 29th and have checked several times since with great releaf each time and yesterday they were at 100,100, 101, & 102. I lowered the air down to 100 on 2 of the tires. These G614 tires hold air better than our truck tires.
