Starlink

My favorite watering hole in Northwest Wisconsin, was sold. The new owner set up Elon Musks Starlink system for the customers. He said it was easier than doing satellite TV like a lot of us do in the RV. The speed was 85 megabytes. After watching him launch so many Falcon 9 rockets over the last few years it was really amazing to see it actually working..

With the release of Starlink for RV's, this could eliminate the need for a dedicated satellite TV system. With one Starlink you could pay your bills and stream what ever you wanted on one antenna!

This all sounds good until the Chinese figure out how to shoot down all of Elon's satellites.

In addition to "Starlink for RV's", they also offer a "portability" option for those that have Starlink at home; for an additional $25/month. Portability appears to provide the same network access (secondary to primary users) as "Starlink for RV's".

Why would China need to go through the trouble? For the past 40 years every single piece of electronic equipment (Car's TV's, computers, cell phones, etc) sold in the U.S. have Chinese chips and circuit boards inside. All they probably have to do is send a single command code to shut it all down...

When or if China decides to do that, we'll have much bigger problems than lack of internet.

I agree

When the internet fails, we WILL have bigger problems. The entire infrastructure system runs on the internet. And we think we have problems getting things now! The Electric grid is a greater target for them and bigger payback, that would put us back to the 18th century. Unless you have solar.

Not sure going back to the 18th century would be a bad thing at this point.
